We have a Kenmore 110.209224990 top loading washing machine with the three speed direct drive motor. It is about 8 years old. My wife had washed 3 loads when on the third load, the washer stopped in the middle of the agitate cycle. My wife noticed it had stopped, she tried turning it on and off again. It made a humming sound and she notices a strong burnt insluation smell. She then unplugged it. I looked at it later in the evening, plugging it in and it ran fine through the rest of the cycle.
The next day I took the front off and ran it with just water. After about 15 minutes, the motor windings measured 160 degrees F and still rising. Before I replace the motor (or the machine), I want to know if there are any other (less expensive) things that could cause the motor to overheat.
Thanks, Steve D.
