My Sansa was working fine up until a week ago. It'll play some songs, but for about 3/4 of my songs it skips and says Bad File. There's no way those files are corrupt b/c they worked on my iPod. Also, when I pull up the folder to add/remove files, there's 7 or 8 folders w/names like 'r', 's', 'e', '3', etc. It won't let me delete these and I have no idea where they came from. It says cannot read from the source file or disk. Please help before I throw this thing out a window.
I'm having the same error. The sansa wouldn't delete my files and after I went in and manually deleted a bunch, the new tracks wont work. What is causing this?I'm having the same error. Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from the Sansa website.
Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.
Firmware Upgrade- Erases Everything: Get the latest firmware upgrade from Sansa - it updates the firmware and erases every song in the player all at once. Note: this method doesn't work if already have the latest firmware. Go to this website and click "Firmware Updater" to find out: http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/DriverDownloads.aspx

try using recovery mode with the sansa.fmt file and update the firmware. this will erase all your music from the device so you will have to reload all your songs but it will probably fix the issue.
Some DRM-encrypted files have a fixed time limit for how long you can use/play a song. after the time period has lapsed, they will show up as "Error - File Format..." (this is only one possibility)
Go ahead and do this, in case the DB is corrupted:

We could try formatting the player and after the format has been complete try updating the firmware of the player. Change the settings fo the player to MSC then connect to your computer, open my computer and right-click the player and choose format remove the tick mark on the quick format and after the format has been completed. Unplug the device and go to the sandisk website and download the firmware update and install it and when it ask you to connect the device hook the plyer and perform the update for the player. Note: It may be the songs on the player are not that properly transferred that why it is skipping and also the player might also have had bad sectors that is why we have formatted the player. Hope this helps.
Run the file after downloading and follow the on screen instructions, making sure to connect your player in recovery mode.
Make sure you select the option to Format when giving the option.
after running the program, remove hold from on top of the player and disconnect the player when completed and completion should be set for the player.
After running this, try downloading songs again. Remember to make sure you authorize your player and ensure that the songs being transferred are available for transfer.
I restored settings to default factory settings and has been working and not skipping the songs. Restoring to factory settings does not delete any of your data/songs
