Archos 404 does not work at all since using Archos Docking Adaptor

I bought an Archos Docking Adaptor recently as I had lost the USB cable I had previously used to charge it.

It appeared to work OK at first, but then I noticed the 404 getting very hot when charging. Then the battery life started getting really low (about 15 mins of use after a full charge.

I began getting worried when the 404 didn't function properly at all after being removed from Adaptor (the screen would appear to flicker and bleed, then go white).

Now it doesn't work at all. I plug the 404 into the Adaptor, but it doesn't even bring the Archos screen-logo up (even the small green indicator light doesn't appear).

I'm hoping it's simply the battery that is malfunctioning, and not any serious problem with the player itself.

If there is a fault more serious, is there anywhere in the UK that specialises in repairing Archos products?

Can anyone help?

Did you buy this docking station from Ebay? I'm having a similar issue with heat and now battery life is about 2/3 what it used to be.... Also when I plug the dock into my PC via the usb connection, I get "A USB device plugged into this computer is not recognized"

This is starting to really **** me off. This was a brand new, sealed box, but I bought it from Ebay. I'm starting to think these units are rejects or something like that and now they surfaced on the only place they can sell them and get away with not telling us their true condition.

I have an archos 404. i have a dvr station as well. How do i get my movies from my archos to play on my tv?

The Archos 404 attaches to the TV using either a DVR Station or a special AV cable. The AV cable uses a special small audio-style mini plug on one end to the standard red, white and yellow composite video connectors on the other. The docking station can record from and playback to the TV. The DVR Station 5 uses S-Video and red/white RCA plugs for connection to the TV. Optionally you can use the yellow/red/white composite connections instead. Hook it up similarly to a VCR, input from the cable box to the input of the DVR Station and output of the DVR Station to the input of the TV.

Battery problem

I had the same problem and changed the battery on Monday. Works fine. There are just four small screws to remove.

Replacement battery can be found here:
http://newmp3technology.com/404-battery.htm. I used them and can confirm that the battery comes with the right connector for the Archos 404.

Took 10 minutes to replace it.

Good luck.

Archos 404 not charging

Dont use the USB to charge the 404. Use a wall charger that accepts USB. Wally world (Walmart) has one for 15 dollars that has 2 USB ports. It works for me. Also the docking station will charge the 404 in no time at all. It's 80 dollars. Make sure you get the generation 4 unit

I have an Archos 605 WiFi. I haven't yet connected my Archos docking station to the TV and HDD. Meanwhile, I thought I would copy a programme from the HDD to a DVD, then put the DVD in the computer and...

What kind of HDD do you have, do you have any type of output on it. You stated that you haven't connected the docking station to it and the TV...? The best thing to do is to connect your Archos to the Docking station. Set the docking station up correctly, with cables coming out of the HDD (if it has some sort of output) to the station and out of the station to your TV. Once you set that up, you can use the Archos as a mini DVR or VCR. Go to the REC option on the main screen of Archos, you'll have an option for Video Recorder (tab on top). If you play any source on the HDD, then all you have to do is press the Rec option on the Archos. If you already have a file on the HDD, then try just moving it over into the Archos once you connect the Docking station to your computer via USB or just use the USB cable connected to the computer with the HDD. I use the USB preference as Windows Media Device. (found under menu/settings/system). Is is basically a HDD itself. Remember the Archos will only play certain videos without the purchase of any extra plugins.
Good Luck
