IP should be 192.068.000.001, not 10, unless you changed it. there should be a reset button that allows you to reset to factory. find and hold for 10 to 30 seconds while on, ior 10 to 30 seconds while off. UN and PW is most likely admin admin.

SOURCE: ARRIS Modem + D-Link router = no internet

when you are on Cable Internet with a "modem" only connected directly to the computer, what the ISP see is the computer's MAC Address (command prompt -> type ipconfig and hit enter).

put a router (which has it's own MAC Address) in-between and the ISP wont let you cause it sees the router not the computer.

check physical connection: cable modem -> router -> computer(hard wire for this troubleshooting)

access the d-link gui and locate the “Clone MAC Address" button (supposed to clone the computers MAC Address - verify if it's the same), save settings & reboot the router.

The SB4200 Modem according to the Motorola website does NOT have wireless capabilities. In fact not a lot of cable modems do have wireless built in to them.

http://broadband.motorola.com/consumers/products/sb4200/default.asp

That is the modem to which you refered and it does not have wireless. In order to connect your Wii wirelessly you would need to purchase a WIRELESS ROUTER, which most major stores carry varios brands such as Linksys or Netgear.

Hi, follow the steps below to configure MR814 with your motorola surfboard:

CONNECTIONS:

1. Connect a Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port of the router (isolated port).
2. Connect the computer to the router using any one of the 4 available ports. Please make sure that there is no direct connection between the modem and the computer (either using Ethernet cable or USB cable).
3. Power off the modem and the router after making the connections.
4. Power on the modem and wait for the lights, then power on the router.
RECONFIGURE:
1. Open the browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari).
2. Access the router, usually with http://192.168.0.1
3. Login to the router with the Username as "admin" and Password as "password" (please note that the Username and Password are case sensitive).
4. Click on 'Basic settings' from the left menu and select 'Use Computers MAC Address' from 'router MAC Address' section.
5. Click Apply.
6. Once it updates the settings then power off the modem and the router. Power on the modem and wait for the lights, then power on the router.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

and google finds them all if you try.
but hark no router told only the MODEM.

Motorola SURFboard SBG900 DOCSIS 2.0 Wireless Cable Modem Gateway (Black) is just a modem and is not router or wifi

Hi.. I have just been connected to cable broadband with a Motorola Surfboard SBG9001 modem. I don't have any security, how can I change that so that the neighbours get free internet. Thanks

Open Internet Explorer and type 192.168.0.1 in the location for a web address.
When the SBG900 page appears choose WIRELESS on the left.
When WIRELESS appears click SECURITY AND stay on the basic page.
Choose WPA as the SECURITY MODE.
Use your phone number as your passphrase
Under the WPA CONFIGURATION section choose TKIP and LOCAL WPA-PSK.
Then click SAVE CHANGES.
The SBG900 may restart before the changes take effect.

I cannot get the wirelss connection of the sbg900 to work with my laptop.

make sure you have internet connection, and make sure wifi is enabled (turned on) on both the modem and the laptop, the default wpa-psk is either on the bottom or on the back of the modem, if the wifi is turned on you will be prompted to enter that wpa-psk into the password field when you try and connect to the wireless, other than that i will need more details to properly address your issue and give you a good step by step instruction to resolve the issue for you

Software

Yes you can use USb modem, you need to uninstall modem software, disconnect modem and reinstall software configuring it as usb. Start installation with modem disconnected and follow User Guide SBG900

Note: usb modem is much slower than ethernet modem (even if you use same machine) . Instead of using modem as usb I suggest using an external Usb Network adapter.

Can't connect to the internet wirelessly

Well, to avoid confusion, I'd start by doing a factory reset. Insert the straightened end of a paperclip into the reset hole and power up the device to do this. From there, the device should begin broadcasting the default wireless network with the name (SSID) of "Motorola." The DHCP server should also be enabled and if your computer is configured to receive an automatically assigned IP address your wireless network interface should pick up an IP. The security for the "Motorola" network is disabled by default.

Basic troubleshooting from there would be to try to see if you can connect your wireless computer to another wireless network that is know to be working well. Either buy and return another wireless access point or router from a retailer or head to a Starbucks or other establishment that offers free wireless. If the wireless computer is hooking up nicely with the secondary wireless network, you can refocus on the SBG900 as the likely source of the problem.

If after attempting the aforementioned procedures you find that the wireless computer continues to fail to connect to the SBG900 you might have to consider that you have a faulty device. At that point I would consider consulting the manufacturer's documentation.
