I’m having a problem with my Toshiba 42HL196. Once or twice the red LED was flashing and I held the power button in for a bit and it started working again. Today I was having cable installed and after a bit the TV went off and the red LED started flashing and then the blue power light would come on but the picture did not and I can do nothing with it....bring up the setup screen, change inputs, channels or even power it off with the remote. If I hold the power button, it clicks off and the red LED flashes again and eventually goes out and the blue power light comes on again but again I cannot do anything with it. Just a black screen that occasionally brightens up a bit but still remains black (no picture) as if coming on but then goes black again. I tried unplugging it for a couple hours but still the flashing red LED then blue but no picture or control. Any idears?

Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.
http://homenol.blogspot.com/
http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
If blinks continue without any pause, the main board is faulty.
Search the site by type in the "brand name" to your device, in the "Search box at the top right of the display window of the Homepage" to get gathered related posts.

yes call the tech and have the power board replaced. In future have the TV plugged into an anti surge board to protect it ( and you from expensive repair.) I suspect you will need a new power supply fitted

SOURCE: Our Toshiba 42HL196 TV refuses

If the tv doesn't reset after being unplugged awhile, there's an internal problem, and the unit will have to be serviced. Make sure the cable input isn't loose, and that the cable cord is good. Aside from that, there's not much you can do. Some cities have mobile TV repairmen that will service the unit in your home, and it's much more convenient. Look in your Yellow Pages under TV Repair.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

I am trying to unlock the region code for Sony BDP-S5100 with the URC7740. The hack program refers to "press and hold the &#147 key. Where or what is "&#"?

I would have to guess, that is probably not the correct remote. I feel I must inform you, trying to upgrade your firmware, from an unsavory hacker, can turn your unit into a brick(doorstop). IMO, proceed with caution.

Code for Sky+ remote to work with Toshiba TV AV635DB

Hi there. I have just bought the same television today and I have just found that the remote code 0156 does actually work. The mistake i initially made was not pressing the TV BUTTON after I had held in the SELECT and RED Buttons together, making the light blink twice. So here's what I did:

1. Press the TV button
2. Hold in the Select and Red Button until the red light flashes twice
3. Press the TV button again
4. Enter the code 0156 (The Red light will blink Twice again)
5. Test the controller - Try to change the volume
6. If it works, press SELECT one last time to save the settings.

Hope this helps.

Do you know how to work my dvd with my toshiba t.v Remote its a Toshiba CT-877

You can find the remote control codes for difrent brands of devices from
http://www.hifi-remote.com/ofa/codes-vcr.shtml#dvd

If none of the codes work then we have two other solutions:

1. Searching For Your Code

If you have tried all of the set-up codes for your brand of equipment ,or your brand is not listed, and you are still not able to get the unit to respond, try the following procedure to search for your code.
If you don't find a code that works, the remote will flash four times when you reach the end of all the codes for this device type.
  1. PRESS the button for the device you want to program, (TV, VCR, CABLE, etc.), then RELEASE.
  2. PRESS and HOLD the SETUP button until the red LED flashes twice, then RELEASE.
  3. ENTER 9-9-1 (two blinks on the remote)
  4. ALTERNATE slowly between the POWER key and the DEVICE (TV, VCR, CABLE, etc.) button until your device turns off. (On VCR, LD, and CD players use PLAY instead of POWER)
Make sure that the remote is pointed at your device during the search, You may have to press this sequences of buttons up to 100 times to search the entire library of codes.
  5. When your device turns OFF, PRESS the SETUP button and RELEASE it to lock in the code for your device.

2. Learn the buttons from the original

Line up your original remote and the head-to-head before completing the following steps.
  1. PRESS and HOLD the SETUP button until the red LED flashes twice.
  2. PRESS 9 - 7 - 5, the red LED will flash twice.
  3. PRESS the DEVICE key where you wish to learn the function. The next 3 steps must be completed within 10 seconds.
  4. PRESS the button that will receive the learned function, the LED will flash radidly.
  5. PRESS the button on the original remote to be learned.

Now you can repeat steps 3 through 5 to learn other functions onto other keys or press and hold SETUP until the Cinema's red light flashes twice to lock in your new feature. (If the red light does not blink twice, stop and repeat steps through 6).
To test the new feature, press and release the device key in which the new feature was learned followed by the key on which the feature was learned

More help for programing your remote can be found here: http://www.hifi-remote.com/manuals/ofa-l.shtml?URC-7800#device
