My dad bought a grand theft auto game for the xbox 360. but he bought it in canada and we are living in ireland and it does not work due to regional problems. please help in any way you can.

There is a multi regional hack for the Xbox 360. I have not had to do it. I would try and Google to find it.
Or if the game is not opened buy it in your region and return the other one.

You can try it and see but I would guess not. I used to have a japanese 360 and I could not use United States or Japanese codes. Had something to do with it being detected as being in the United states so it was running off of US servers but a japanese 360. But with Canada it might because they are both region coded for NTSC. So try it and see.
the drive must be outdated firmware hook up to live for a update if that dont work the drive is crappy 1st gen if you got it used somebody might have put a new one in and flashed it with what is now outdated
In North America we us a different TV format. We use NTSC and in Ireland you use PAL. The game may be region locked. You can look up the game and see if it is locked. If it is, you can't play it.
Games bought in Ireland are not compatible with your US console. So rather than buying a converter plug, you're better off buying a new Xbox 360 console. (Of course if you have brought games with you from the US these will ONLY work on your US console, meaning you need a plug. You should be able to find a converter in an electronics store.) But do not forget that certain games are region free (meaning any console can play it, regardless of where the console was bought. i have had a similar problem with the same game, i took it into gamestation and you know how they have that disk repair machine thing, it worked a treat and my game was working good as new.
I have the basic 360 that came with nothing. Um this actually did happen with me a few times when I first bought the game. Exept my problem was a little different. 30 or so minutes into playing the game it would come over the side the game was unreadable or dirty. I had just bought the thing from wal-mart so I knew it was neighter. I just went out and bought one from game stop. Game stop seems like the best place to buy games anymore.
