If the device is still under "warranty", exercise the warranty to get it repaired/replaced.
Try connecting it to a different computer, to see if it works at all.
Open the enclosure, disconnect the disk-drive, and remove it.
Connect the drive as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer,
to see if it is the USB-to-disk-drive interface inside the enclosure that is the problem. If the disk-drive cannot be read, you can replace it, and insert a new disk-drive into the enclosure, and thus "refresh" your external disk-drive.
Try plugging the enclosure's usb to another USB slot. If the computer still will not read it, then the enclosure itself might be defective and not the actual harddisk that is inside.
To verify this, try to mount the harddisk to another enclosure and test. If the enclosure is still under warranty, you can return it back to save repair costs.
