I had the same problem and it turned out to be the solder joints on the display panel. If you are reasonably handy at electrical stuff and have a fine tipped solder iron then you should be able to repair that problem. It took me about 10 minutes to get the display unit into a position where I could take a look at the joints. Then about 20 minutes to carefully re-solder each joint. It did however take me a while to remember how to put it back together so I'd recommend a slower disassemble and some note taking.

Have Problem With Yamaha DSP A 1. power does not come on...after repeatedly pressing the on switch it comes on and then works fine ..most of the PSU cold solder prob solved...what could be the possible...

Either the power switch is shorting out, or you could have a faulty or somewhat faulty resistor or capacitor on the power board. You can test them with an anlalog meter. Each component has an imprinted number on it to determine it voltage and ohm rating. That number should match the number on your tester.
Some units also have relays in them. The little square plastic boxes. You can test these with an ohmmeter but you would likely have to pull the circuit board to test the relay from the solder joints on the bottom.

The receiver works, but the LED display does not come on.

My Yahaha DSP-A1 had the same problem. Apparently its quite a common problem, caused by the heat from the LEDs causing the solder joints to fail.

I fixed mine by removing the front panel, and resoldering all the connections on the back of LCD panel - and it works fine now.

Its not particularly difficult, but is a bit fiddly and does require the use of a small soldering iron.

DSP-A1

Over the years the solder joints on the display panel become bad due to the heat that the display puts out. The way to rectify this take the cover off and dis-assemble enough to get to the display. Then using a soldering iron re-solder all of the joints on the board. You should be able to see the joints that are bad as they will wiggle. If you are un-comfortable soldering then try to find someone that is. There is a your tube video on doing this as I learned tonight. I have not done this procedure yet, but I have had the same problem for over 2 years. The display does not even work any more. Now that I have learned what the problem is I will be doing this when I feel like unhooking everything.

Av amplifier

The display problem is because the solderings on the back of the display are broken. To fix it you have to open the amp and redo the solderings (there are about 50 or 60 of them). There is a Youtube video that shows how to do it. I have fixed this on my DSP-A1.
I also have the problem with the motorized volume control. I have tried cleaning it, and it works for a few days, then it's stuck again. I guess I will have to replace it to have it fixed permanently. The part number is VZ621400, a new one costs about 40$.
