Question about Sanyo TRC-3680 Handheld Cassette Voice Recorder

1 Answer

Have an old Sanyo Mini-Talk Book

Have a TRC 3500, uses a slightly larger cassette than the new ones. The recorder, doesn't turn when on play or review...does have a new battery. Would buy a new one, but have to listen to the old cassettes I have, so what do I do? Have a TRC 3500 unused for six years, the tape has the last message from my late wife from hospital, I have fitted a new battery but there is no response. Can you help?

Hi have you tried to see if it turns without a tape in it as this will then rule out the tape being the problem

Also with no tape in and tape door open press the play button then you will see the head come down the touches the tape next to this that comes down is a rubber wheel that touches a thin metal peg whilst play button pressed then try turning this rubber wheel and the metal peg the metal peg is driven from the motor so this could be seized doing this usually frees them up getting them working again

Hi. With tape door open press play you will see the tape head come down and also to the side of this their is a rubber wheel and a metal pin usually these seize up after being out of use so with door open press play button then turn the metal pin round by pushing it with your finger it wont matter what way because as soon as you move it at all it should start to work on its own.
If this still dont solve your problem then clean battery terminals properly scrape off any corosion as this will stop it from working.
Let me know how you get on ok

Sanyo Transcribing Machine - model unknow

The motor has gone and would need replacement. Unfortunately, this part was recently discontinued so you will have trouble finding someone who has one.

A lot of background noise when playing back.

The pic looks like a TRC5880? If thats the case they are naturally quite noisey. The motors vibrate too much in my opinion. Theres not much you can do with it unfortunately. Suggest a new recorder or get that one repaired.
