Your computer power button may not be working, or the CPU may be bad and it can also be the motherboard is faulty. You need a new case or fix the power button or try another CPU in the computer or replace the motherboard.
After much experience dealing with the many times that my XPS410 would not power-up nor boot - I discovered something that likely caused the problems. After replacing the stock power supply and months later the motherboard as well - one day I noticed hearing light popping sounds occasionally coming from my XPS410. I used to think the sounds were normal. Then one day I noticed the green light on my 110v power strip was not lit. My computer and all my computer peripherals were plugged into this 110v power strip. The green light on the power strip is to indicate that the wall outlet is grounded! But the green light was NOT LIT! So I took out my outlet tester and sure enough the outlet was not grounded though it was supposed to be grounded! All the electrical outlets in my home have the third prong ground. I then realized it must have been static electricity causing the light popping sounds that would occasionally come from my XPS410. I then switched outlets to one that I tested was surely grounded. I've lived in the same house now for over six years. Since I switched outlets to one that is grounded I've never had another problem with my XPS410 nor my other computer peripherals. I STRONGLY SUGGEST ANYONE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THEIR COMPUTERS NOT BOOTING OR POWER SUPPLIES DYING OR MOTHERBOARDS FRYING TO TEST THE WALL OUTLET YOU ARE USING FOR YOUR COMPUTER EQUIPMENT! MAKE SURE THE OUTLETS ARE GROUNDED! DON'T JUST ASSUME THEY ARE BECAUSE THEY LOOK LIKE THEY ARE OR HAVE THE THIRD PRONG ON THEM! MY LANDLORD HAD INSTALLED THIRD PRONG OUTLETS THROUGHOUT THE HOUSE YET ONLY HALF OF THE OUTLETS ARE ACTUALLY GROUNDED! STATIC ELECTRICITY CAUSED BY UNGROUNDED OUTLETS IS NOT GOOD FOR ANYTHING ELECTRONIC! COMPUTER COMPONENTS ARE SENSITIVE TO STATIC ELECTRICITY! MOTHERBOARDS, GRAPHICS CARDS, RAM MEMORY ETC..COME IN ANTI-STATIC BAGS FOR A REASON! I HONESTLY BELIEVE THE UNGROUNDED WALL OUTLET I'D BEEN USING FOR LIKE A YEAR IS WHAT CAUSED STATIC ELECTRICITY TO OCCASIONALLY BUILD-UP AND THAT IS WHAT GAVE ME BOOT PROBLEMS AND FRIED MY POWER SUPPLY AND LATER MY MOTHERBOARD!
My Dell XPS410 has been doing the same thing, but I've had a partial solution. Sometimes when the computer wouldn't power on there'd be no fans, no lights, nothing but a solid yellow led showing on the motherboard. This led, I've noticed is normally lit anytime the computer is plugged-in to a wall outlet so I have no idea what could be causing my intermittent power-on problem. My XPS410 died again yesterday so I removed all the components making sure to unplug everything from the motherboard, then re-positioned and installed the RAM plus all the components and the computer still didn't power on, was doing the same thing - no lights, no fans, only the yellow led lit on the motherboard. I then unplugged the computer and went to bed. This morning I plugged the computer back in, pressed the power button and nothing happened. I left it alone and a minute later the computer turned-on by itself and booted-up! I had nothing attached, no mouse, no keyboard, no monitor, etc.. Now the computer is running normally like nothing ever happened. I've had my XPS410 for like 10 years, purchased it brand new. This power-on issue happened to me shortly after my purchase. I remember I had called Dell and the tech had me remove everything from the motherboard while he was talking me through it. The computer wouldn't power-on still so he shipped me a new power supply which did the trick in my case. I think the problem might be once again with the stock power supply in my case. Try doing what worked for me this morning. Remove everything from the motherboard then unplug the damned thing and go to bed! Get up the next morning and plug it in with nothing attached. If the computer smells coffee it might wake-up and boot by itself?? Might take a moment for the power supply to reset itself? Who knows?
