Nope, they are for shipping, they hold the tub inplace while it is being shipped. if they are left in when you use the washer it will end up wrecking it.
hi thanks for the question i think you could have a problem with your tub bearing or you could have a piece of clothing caught between the tank and tub remove the front lift up the top remove the plastic top and look you will see if you have something caught in the space between those two pieces thanks the appliance doc

You can order a side vent kit for it or make one yourself. The kit has a couple of extensions and an elbow that will turn the exhaust out the knock out on the side. You can pick up everything you need at the hardware store but the kit has precut pieces and installation instructions. If it is not a big inconvienience to wait for it, I would recommend you order the kit through a maytag dealer or sears. That way you have the right pieces and instructions to follow.
If your timer has a gray rubber ring on it, the timer is in 4 pieces. Pull the top middle part out. Then there's a white locking piece in the center. Once that's out the other 2 pieces will pull out.
Note: The photo shows the top cover removed. The locking pin is the white center.
