When I connect my D60 to my computer a bell rings that shows the camera is connected, but when I try to download pictures a window says camera not detected.

Sounds like your computer or the software program you're using to download your pics is set to automatically erase the card after the download.

I depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If downloading pictures, then camera USB mode must be in Mass Storage. If trying to control camera with Nikon Capture or Control Pro, Then USB mode must be in PTP. Those are changed in the menu system

You should try some photo recovery software to rescue the files on your camera memory card, here are some you may rely on. Both programs can also recover videos and music.

dont bother to connect camera to pc..just use the SD card reader...either external usb one or laptops internal one
