Pana TC-20LA2 LCD TV Blanking Video

When just turned on the video is fine. After a while the video flickers and then goes to black. This is the same for all input signals but you may see very dim diastorted video if at all. The audio is very muted. Note: The menu is still viewable! The video may come back. It doesn't seem like a tuner issue. TV is 2.5 yrs old and is bright when viewable. Don't have a schematic but is there a common condition / part failure like this?

UPDATE: The video is permanently gone just some very dim ghosting if anything. Very muted audio still. Good menu. Seems the backplane may be good. Maybe it is the tuner? I can do electronics repair.

It's not the inverter as that would not affect the sound. If it's on all inputs it's not the tuner. It would be logical that it would be caused by whatever board drives the LCD.

Since this is an LCD based set, there are twqo components that must work in order to get a picture; the LCD panel itself and what is often referred to as the "back light". An LCD works by letting differing amounts of light through the crystals. If the "back light" has failed, you may still be able to see an image, but it will be dim (similar to what you describe above). There are a number of reasons for this type of failure. Based upon the description you supplied, I would first be looking for bad connections that may have been caused by heat. I can not rule out component failure, but the less expensive route is to look for bad solder joints first.

I am assuming that this set is out of the warranty period.

If you need additional info, please do not hesitate to ask.

Try and retune Channel(s). It does look like this is a somewhat common problem. You might be better off replacing/upgrading it at this point.
Thanks,

Seems the lcd inverter gets tired after a while and would need to be replaced, it may also be some other component on the display which is causeing this, no easy fix for this one.

try this to check lcd inverter problem

Get one of those CCFL lights like they use to mod cases with that has a bulb about 12" long. Connect the bulb to the inverter to check it's output and the new inverter to the backlight to see how it looks.

Make sure that your input source cables are firmly secured. It almost sounds like a bad input connection that slips over time.

Today my tv's video iss flickering some times it goes to the static but mostly its lines going up the tv screen changing the colors to black and white sepia or looks like and old VHS vido thats way old...

It could be a loose connection on one of the input lines. try a dvd player plugged right into the tv. If the problem still is there then it is not the signal its the TV itself. if the dvd player looks ok then the bad signal could be from the converter box or something else on the line infront of the input signal
