Hello aodhoire,
Well, it does look like the IC controlling the LCD display, or the LCD display itself, or the connector ribbon has got some problems. This should not be very expensive to repair, but I do not recommend you doing it yourself, if you have no prior experience. This is not a simple replace-a-chip-and-voila solution, as the parts ar very tiny indeed, and to be attempted by an inexperienced person.

OH! Sorry, I thought you were in the US. Sorry to say, the closest Casio service center from here is in London. If your piece is under warranty, you can send it to them by post and they should return it within 2 weeks.
However, like you said, you may be better off buying a new one. There are cameras starting from E54.95 at Argos. That would probably be the better option.
Slonshe! ( Cant spell in Irish )

By the way, if you are in Dublin, I believe Curry's in Blanchardstown Retail Park is having a Bank Holiday weekend discount sale. Check it out....and thanks for the rating!
Cheers!

I tried removing batteries, pressing ON button etc but problem remains. The permanent screen pattern is as follows: below diagonal from top LH to bottom RH is almost entirely blank. About half of other area is solid black in shape of moth wing. Above that a series of slim vertical bands in colours white, purple, green, black, yellow, grey, yellow, black, blue and so on. Broad grey band at right
Thanks for reply and for list of agents. However I live in the country where Irish Druids come from rather than USA. I suspect that with the competitive prices for improved models, it may not be worth repairing
