What is a wep key and how do i find it

A WEP key is a security code used on some Wi-Fi networks. WEP keys allow a group of devices on a local network (such as a home network) to exchange encoded messages with each other while hiding the contents of the messages from easy viewing by outsiders. WEP keys are chosen by a network administrator. WEP keys are set on Wi-Fi Routers and other wireless network devices. Matching WEP keys must be set on each device for them to communicate with each other.

What is the wep password

The encryption key secures your data from unauthorized access.
The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key. The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings. To connect to your wireless router, it needs the router'swireless settings configured ie SSID, WPA or WPA2 encryption key and also thewireless cards in all the laptops and or computers needs to be configured withthese router's wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktop computers cancommunicate with your wireless router.

What is the wep key

A WEP key is a security code used on some Wi-Fi networks. WEP keys allow a group of devices on a local network (such as a home network) to exchange encoded messages with each other while hiding the contents of the messages from easy viewing by outsiders. A WEP key is a sequence of hexadecimal digits. These digits include the numbers 0-9 and the letters A-F. Some examples of WEP keys are:
  • 1A648C9FE2
  • 99D767BAC38EA23B0C0176D15
WEP keys are chosen by a network administrator. WEP keys are set on Wi-Fi routers, adapters and other wireless network devices. Matching WEP keys must be set on each device for them to communicate with each other. The length of a WEP key depends on the type of WEP security (called "encryption") utilized:
  • 40- / 64-bit WEP: 10 digit key
  • 104- / 128-bit WEP: 26 digit key
  • 256-bit WEP: 58 digit key

Need to accessmy router wep code

Hi wdarrel11,

Welcome to Fixya. If you need the WEP key or Network Key you need to access the Wireless Settings Page. To access the router page just open a browser then type 192.168.1.1, the Default username is blank and the password is admin. Go to the Wireless Tab select Wireless Security under the Security Mode you will see there Network Key or Wep Key. The Network Key or Wep Key serves as a password or security code on your network to make it secure.

If this works dont forget to say thanks. Thanks for using Fixya.

Is the PIN on the bottom of the router the same as the WEP or WPA?

WEP or WPA are the types of wireless security. If your wireless network is secured then there will be a password on the network that is called as wireless network key or passphrase ( WEP or WPA key ). PIN number is different than WEP or WPA.
To check the wireless network key ( WEP / WPA) you will need to access the router settings page.
On that page , you will find all the settings of the router.

What is the WEP key

Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP)
WEP is an older network security method that's still available to support older devices, but it's no longer recommended. When you enable WEP, you set up a network security key. This key encrypts the information that one computer sends to another computer across your network. However, WEP security is relatively easy to crack. f4008eb.jpg

I need wep key westell model 327w

Unfortunately, no one could not provide you any WEP key. WEP is a key that you set to your router so that no one could connect to your wireless network. As an owner of the network, you should know what your network key was.

If you forgot your WEP key, you need to reset the router to factory default, configure it and set a new WEP key.

That is the only way. Thank you!

Can't connect the artisan 800 to our wireless network

To add the printer to your wireless network, you need to know the name (SSID)
of your wireless network. If it has security enabled, you also need to know the
WEP key or passphrase. Write down the SSID and WEP key or passphrase below:
■ Network name (SSID): _________________________________________
■ WEP key or passphrase: _________________________________________
Note:
If the WEP key is either 5 or 13 characters, it’s ASCII. If the WEP key is either 10 or 26
characters, it’s hexadecimal. The default WEP key is usually 1.
If your passphrase contains upper- or lowercase letters, be sure to note it correctly.
The printer supports the following wireless security modes: WEP 64, WEP 128, and
WPA-PSK.
If you don’t know your wireless network name (SSID) or WEP key or passphrase,
contact the person who set up your wireless network before you begin.

Insert the printer software CD.
2. Windows Vista®: If you see the AutoPlay window, click Run Epsetup.exe.
When you see the User Account Control screen, click Continue.
Windows® XP: When you see the Software installation screen, continue with
step 3.
Mac OS® X: Double-click the icon.
3. Click Install.

1.Make sure that the printer is turned on.
2. When you see the FireWall Warning screen, click Next.
3.Make sure you connected the Ethernet cable

My xbox 360 wont connect to my friends internet. something bout a wep key. how can i connect?

You need to get the WEP key from the person that setup the network. The WEP key is a password that you setup to prevent outside users from connecting to the wireless network. If you are using FIOS for your internet provider, the WEP key will be printed on the router itself. If you provided your own router, then you need to get in touch with the person that setup the network. If you cannot get the WEP key, then you will need to reset the router to factory default. Most routers have a small button on the back of them. You need to hold the button in for about 20 seconds. This will reset the router to factory defaults. The SSID might  also change to another name too. However, the wireless network should be open after reset and no WEP is needed.
