This a very common for this model, it was so bad that HP had recalled it years ago. Look for cold solder joints on all 4 round inductor, check all four transistors (c5706/5707), the caps.

Hope this helps.... Your monitor has an inverter issue. You know it's an inverter problem when:
1. Your monitor starts normally and displays the startup/desktop screen for a while.
2. Then it suddenly goes off, leaving a blank (black) screen or a very dim display.

This indicates the inverter transformer is going or a capacitor issue.

Hello,

The picture board on your monitor is bad, since it goes off after few seconds and the power led or button is on, it means the picture board of your monitor has developed fault.

The best thing for you to do now is to take the monitor to a local repairer or service center within your vicinity to help with the replacement of the picture board because the fault is not something you can fix yourself, in order not to complicate issues.

I have a Dell SE198WFP Flat Panel Monitor, screen goes black?

The LCd panel may be damaged and will cause this problem.

Another thing is overheating of the GPU.

The LCD signal receiver can be goign on you.

The is also the possibility of a faulty inverter.

Only thing to do is service or replace. Test the unit on another computer, if you don't get the issue there then you know its a problem with the PC.

Open it up and look at the capacitors. The round "tin can" looking components. If the tops appear bulged, then replacing them may help. Check out the YouTube video... and web site...

My monitor will not stay on and goes black after a few seconds when I reboot it. I'll turn the monitor on and it stays on only for a few seconds but I can see all of my programs for those few seconds.

maryfoldesi1, Your monitor power supply is going into shutdown mode becauce it has detected a fault within the unit. A technician will need to evaluate it. Before doing anything visit YOUTUBE to view vid clips of "LCD monitor disassembly" and "LCD monitor repair" Also read more of my responses to other owners that have BLACK SCREEN problems and find out all your options you have open to you. You did not tell us if you can still see the Win-desktop AFTER it goes BLACK. check your vga cable that is connected on your cpu,for some lose connection,it must be fitted if you still don't get any display check your cpu.have some other monitor for isolation,if you dont have bring it on s repair center,your cpu has a problem.

Sounds like a bad solder joint on the printed circuit board. Once it heats up then it no longer makes good contact and the monitor goes black until it cools down and makes contact again. You could resolder it if you knew where it was but monitors are dangerous to go playing around with as they can hold very high charges of electricity in their capacitors that are very dangerous. It's a throw away world. Go buy a new one.
