8 month old unit started up and then powered off. It continued for hours.
On reading some tips here I removed the battery for some minutes. On re inserting the battery, the unit worked correctly.
I had the same problem - no power. After removing the battery and re-inserting it solved the problem. Thank you!I had the same problem - no power. After removing the battery and re-inserting it solved the problem. Thank you!

If your zumo 400 or 500 series will not power on, or performs strangely after powering up, follow the steps (described on the Garmin website) below to perform a soft reset:
Connect the zumo to a power source such as a computer or AC outlet
Hold the zoom (+) and ON buttons at the same time for five seconds
If this does not restore power, remove the battery for five seconds
Place the battery back in the zumo
The
zumo will now power on. Because the battery may deplete while the zumo
is locked up, it is ideal to leave the zumo connected to power to allow
it time to charge. Once the battery has charged, follow the steps on the Garmin site to update the operating software in the zumo. (just copy this link to get there https://buy.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId={8576ba20-e948-11dc-d6fc-000000000000} ) Good luck, Michael
If the unit freezes with something on the screen, then the book that came with the unit tells you to push the power button and the + sign button at the same time and this should fix the problem. Good Luck.
If you're sure the power cord is getting power, then the mount has likely failed. Mine has failed 3 times. Replacing the mount will fix the problem as it did on mine. If the unit is less than 1 year from purchase, Garmin will warranty replace it for free. If not, it'll cost you about $85 plus shipping to put a new one on.
Use the allen wrench to remove the battery. Let stand for 5 minutes and replace the battery. It should start fine. Mine has done this 3 times since I purchased it.
Make sure that the bike's electrical connection to the GPS unit is actualy not having power once you turn the key off in the bike. This GPS turns on with external power. It is inherent in to its design.
In the case were you cannot have the bike's power source to the GPS turn off with the key, see if you can wire a small in-line switch in series with the GPS unit so that you have an external power switch. This should be easy to do.
The models I have used from Garmin have their own power switch. You should be able to use its power switch to turn it off.
Red lead to the plus and black to the minus of the battery, connecting to the speakers youl'll nead something with an aux input, or a small amplifier, the output signal of the Zumo is just enough to power a head set!
I had exactly the same problem with a 3 month old Zumo 550. Removed
battery, waited a few minutes and replaced. System now poers on OK. All
data on-board was retained.
my battery failed after less than a year of use. Garmin sent me a new battery and the unit is working fine now. The old battery would not provide ANY power to the unit.
There is an ISSUE with the DEAD ZUMO, however some of the are solved, and some need to be shipped back.
There are a couple of options.
1) remove the battery, keep power button pressed for a few minutes. install battery, try.
2) fully recharge the battery with the wall charger, try
3) With a fully charged battery, press and hold the + button and press the power button(hard reset).
4) hold thumb firmly on top left of touch screen and hold power button till it switches on(hard reset).
5) Try a different battery (fully charged)
6) Ship it to Garmin
I had the same problem - no power. After removing the battery and re-inserting it solved the problem. Thank you!
