Accessing video mode without remote

Hey all

I have a 3 yr old toshiba television that has a faulty ir module which means that the remote, at this point, is pretty much useless. Question: Is there any way to access the video mode on said television without using the remote? Is there any of playing dvds short of replacing the ir module (uneconomical) or buying a new tv?
