T5254 I purchased the machine last Thursday. Everything was fine until yesterday. Cd Rom now will not work. I went into control panel and found the device listed. However there is a message that Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37). I tried uninstalling the device, rebooted to have the system add the hardware, and found the same problem and error message.

I tried the "Big Fix" to get support...it got me nowhere!! It sends me in a loop. (I click on Contact Support and it keeps sending me to the screen I was just in!!!) It just adds to my frustration.

I just spoke to Tech support at Emachines. Their emachine support website has been down for work.

We were able to identify the problem as a conflict with my Lexmark printer software. Problem is fixed.

    Thanks

EMachine's customer service was very good last I had occasion to use it. The keyboard that came with a system had a QWRRTY keyboard (E was missing) and I had the new one by 2nd day air with no return needed.

I recommend giving them a shot first since this issue may even be known to them.

I found Cnet's closing paragraph on your machine helpful too:

"We also like, as always, the BigFix application, which provides you with direct support help from Gateway, eMachines' parent company (which is, in turn, owned by Acer).
For the rest of this system's support, eMachines offers one year of parts and labor coverage, as well as 24-7 toll-free phone support. Online you get system-specific support resources, as well, along the lines of driver downloads, live chat, and other features. Because each eMachines is a fixed configuration, any support tech you come across should know exactly what kind of hardware you have, at least out of the box."

No sound when i put in cd or dvd was working ok untill my computer crashed

check the following

Microsoft Volume Control or your mixer program mute options and volume sliders.
Connect headphones to the stereo phone jack on your CD-ROM drive’s front panel; adjust the volume control settings on the drive. If there is sound from your headphones, check the CD audio cable connection from the CD-ROM drive to the audio card.
Ensure the speakers are properly connected to the audio card’s output connector.

hope this can help

Cd rom problem

If this is a problem that just occurred and until now it has worked, my first step would be to check that the hardware, (the CD drive) is still functioning and that the software, (the drivers) are still installed and not corrupted. First go to the start button, then control panel, then performance and maintainance,go to system, and then hardware. Look for DVD/CD ROM drives, if you have more than one CD or DVD drive, point and left click on the plus symbol to the left of DVD/CD ROM Drives. Point and left click on the drive in question to highlight it then go to action, scroll down to properties and left click. This window should say that the device is working properly and also at the bottom of this window, under device usage it sould say "use this device, enable". If all of this seems to be working so far, the drive itself should be good.If there have been error messages, there is an option on the last window that opened to troubleshoot. Use it. If so far, everything looks good, now check that the drivers are good. Follow all of the above steps up until you open the device manager and point to the drive in question, go to action. This time scroll down to update driver and left click. A window will open that says " welcome to the hardware update wizard". Point and highlight the circle that says" no,not this time" regarding connecting to the internet to search for a driver. If this device has been working, the driver should still be on your hard drive. Follow the wizard prompts. If at the end of the wizard you are informed that a better match could not be found, then most likely the drivers are still good for this device. If after checking both the hardware and the software, you saw no errors and everything looked as though it were operating, the problem may be more than you can solve without some repair expertise.
