HP Director has a flaw and is not compatible with IE7
I have a psc 1100 and I had to update my software from HP

CHECK THIS OUT

Go to HP, this link, type in your printer model #.

It still may fail to show...if it does not show HP recommends this
work around.
Workaround: Open HP Director each time you use it If the update to HP Director is not available, or if you have installed the update and the HP Director window still fails to open, try this workaround.

  1. From desktop, double-click the HP Director icon to load the program into the memory. HP Director will not open at this step. Do not click anything else on the screen until Step 2 is completed.
  2. Press the Alt key and the Space bar together, and then select Minimize from the menu that appears at the upper left corner of the window. If necessary, click it again until HP Director minimizes. HP Director software displays as an item on the task bar (the row of open software programs that appears at the bottom of the desktop screen).
  3. Click HP Director on the task bar. The software opens and displays normally.
  4. Repeat Steps 1 through 3 every time you use HP Director.
NOTE: The HP Director window might appear larger than normal, but the software is functional.
Cause In October 2006, Microsoft released Internet Explorer 7. The HP Director software that shipped with some HP products introduced between 2002 and 2004 may not be compatible with Internet Explorer 7. The HP Solution Center software, which replaced HP Director software on products introduced after 2004, is compatible with Internet Explorer 7 and does not exhibit this issue.

In HP Director for my Officejet 6210 I am unable to set scan preferences: get flag "Out of diskspace. Click OK to close the ..." then "The program configured for this button is missing. Please choose...

I have had problems with these models and the HP Director when it came to having the updated browser installed. Did you go to HP support and scan through their software downloads for this model, inparticular the one that states it is the patch software for the HP director for use with IE7 and above. It may not be with the other printer drivers but it is listed below that. I did the same thing that you were doing until I found that piece of software and now everything runs fine and has for some time, I had the 6110, then the 7310. Below is the link.....I checked the updates for XP and when you click on the link for your operating system, this is the file you are looking for.

Hi There! I am having problem opening my hp director program

  1. Open HP Director using one of the following methods:
    • From the desktop : On your computer's desktop, look for the HP Director icon (c01425509.gif), and then double-click it.
    • From the Windows taskbar : Click Start , click All Programs , click the HP orHewlett-Packard folder, and then click HP Director .
Although HP Director does not appear to be open , it is open and loaded into the computer's memory, but it does not open in a new window as usual.
  2. Without navigating to another open window, press Alt and Space bar at the same time. The Shortcut menu displays near the top-left corner of the computer. Figure 1: Shortcut menuc00833293.gif If the Shortcut menu does not open, repeat steps 1 and 2 until it does.
  3. Select Minimize from the Shortcut menu.HP Director displays (minimizes) as an item on the taskbar (the row of open software programs that appears at the bottom of the desktop screen). If HP Director does not minimize, click Minimize again until it does.
  4. Click the HP Director icon on the taskbar . The software opens and functions normally.

My HP Officejet 6310 All-in-One gives me a no destination when I try to use the scan feature. Do I have to have a specific program on my computer?

Yes, go to HP support and place your model in the search box and download the program
HP Director...make sure if you have IE7 and 8 there is a special driver download for that model that allows HP director to properly work with Internet Explorer 7 and 8

Officejet 7210 -downloaded software but do not have any icons, et

FROM THE HP WEBSITE:

If you’ve recently upgraded to the new Internet Explorer 7 (IE7), and you have a Hewlett Packard scanner or printer/scanner, then you will almost certainly be experiencing problems with starting it.
This affects almost every model of HP Printer (e.g. PSC 2510, PSC 2410, Officejet series) that uses the HP Director software. Hewlett Packard is working on a solution, which is due to an incompatibility with Javascript on the new IE7.
However, we have a workaround for you here! Just follow these very simple steps to get around the problem:
  • After double-clicking on the HP Director icon, nothing appears to happen... the program is starting normally, but it’s hiding.
  • Wait a few seconds, then hold down the ALT key and press the space bar. A small dialogue box will appear.
  • Click on Minimize (you may have to click twice)
  • Voila! the HP Director task will appear in the task bar at the bottom of the screen - click it, and the program will appear and work normally.
MY ADVICE IF THIS IS THE PROBLEM:
Don't install/uninstall IE7 and then use Firefox or some other web compliant browser instead.

WHERE COULD I DOWNLOAD THE HP DIRECTOR SOFTWARE

You can download the software/driver for your 6210 OfficeJet from HERE. Just choose the correct OS and download. BTW, the Director Software comes bundled along with the drivers.

Also, if you have IE7, that could be a problem. Try uninstalling IE 7 and run say IE 6 or use Firefox instead. HP Director Software is not compatible with IE7. However, HP has a patch available I think. You can download it HERE.

Should you still have difficulty opening Director Software, here's another solution I found on the web. I quote:
"After double-clicking on the HP Director icon, nothing appears to happen... the program is starting normally, but it’s hiding.
Wait a few seconds, then hold down the ALT key and press the space bar. A small dialogue box will appear.
Click on Minimize (you may have to click twice)
Voila! the HP Director task will appear in the task bar at the bottom of the screen - click it, and the program will appear and work normally."

If your printer is not 6210, please post back the correct model, and I will provide you the required link(s).

Hope that helps! Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here.

P.S. - If you find that the solution/answer I provided led you to, or resulted in a fix, please close the ticket with a FixYa! rating. I would be very grateful for your show of appreciation.
If your issue is not resolved, please do not assign a rating just yet. Please post back as to what steps you took, results, etc, and I will try to assist you further as best I can. I am here at your service.

Thank you for using FIXYA!

Cheers!

My HP Director will not open, I can not scan from the printer either. It was working fine one day and then just quit. I can still print but not scan. What is the solution?

HP Director simply doesn't open? Check your version of Internet Explorer. If you've recently installed Internet Explorer 7, you will need to download the update on the HP website. Go to hp.com, click "Software & Driver Downloads", enter your product, choose your operating system, and there should be an update/patch for Director issues with IE7. Hope this helps.

Hp director

It could be about this: I had same problem until I found a review somewhere - even HP technical support was totally useless - until HP FINALLY decided to up date its drivers to account for my/many people's downloading of Internet Explorer 7. As this is now done, and you cannot easily uninstall IE7 and go back to IE6: try again (1) HP Director and if not (2) I think update drivers or (3) uninstall / reinstall. Hope it helps.
