17 in Widescreen Mag Innovision

My monitor started blinking. Has been doing this for some time but now it is going completely black. I can turn the Monitor off and then back on and it will stay clear for a few moments but then goes black again. Is this a simple fix I can do and what could be the culpret?

Dear tfollis

Have you checked the HZ that you are using the monitor in windows ? If set at a very high level (for example 100hz) it may damage the monitor as it is not supporting it. (and maybe this explains the reason for the shutoff as a means to protect the circuitry)

17 inch TFT/LCD Widescreens monitors are ussualy optimal at [email protected]

Right click on Desktop-->Properties-->Settings-->Advanced-->Monitor--> At this point check the Monitor Refresh Frequency.

Check this first and if this does not solve it then we can proceed to more serious hardware troubleshooting.

Could be the resolution too high for the monitor.
Try to press "F8" during the "Starting Windows" message, then select the safe mode or VGA mode.
After logging in check the resolution and if needed reduce it.

Could be also a video driver problem.

Use the same "F8" trick to get to the safe mode and reinstall the video driver.

I hope this will give you some ideas

AOC LCD monitor black out..Please help? I'm having some problems with my monitor, from time to time my monitor just blacks out, the whole screen turns black, but the computer is still on....and i'm forced...

Sounds like bad video card drivers..Try updating the drivers from the manufacturer's website. Give us the details of your video card/ PC.

Or it could be monitor related. Open the monitor and check the power supply. Make sure there are no bad capacitors inside. If you find any replace them with new ones with same number or bigger capacity,

Yes. Do not turn the monitor off by its power switch, let the computer do the work for you. Alot of times when people use the power switch to turn off the monitor, the computer sees that all of a sudden the monitor has been disconnected from the pc. when that happens the pc sees it as a device beimg unplugged and removes that certain device from the pc's list of things that should be connected, and when you turn it back on the pc sees it again and starts loading drivers for that new part(monitor)

Same here- I understand that the capacitors are bad and need to be replaced. I am going to undertake it myself. Radio Shack sells them.

Will not stay on

Check the power cord where it goes into the monitor and make sure it is tight. When it turns off, if the power light is still on check that you are not getting message "No Imput"; it may be the serial connection on the back of the monitor or the back of your pc. Usually if this is the case the power light will be yellow, not green or will blink. Acer and Planar brand monitors are known for issues ranging from this problem to going completely black even when power light is green. If its under warranty, return it if trouble shooting doesn't work.

Dell E172FP, monitor blinks then goes blank or black

This is a known problem of the Invertor board. If you are technically able you can open the monitor and resolder transistors 2sc5707 as also all pins of 4 yellow invertor transistors that you can see near the backlight connectors.

Monitor blinks out for 2 seconds

What do you do to make it come back on? Sounds like it might be getting too hot and/or going bad. Try it on another machine and see what it does. Also try another video card because the video card could be going bad.
