Hi,
The compressor is not always starting...sometimes it tries but does not start...
It could be a capacitor and relay problem... or the compressor could be going bad...
Change the capacitor and start relay first and then see if that gets it going...

Here is a tip about trouble shooting your air conditioner...

SOURCE: Fan runs, shuts down on cool

Sounds like a power supply problem. There is enough power to run the fan but when you turn it to cool the current draw by the compressor drops the voltage. The lower power light is telling you the answer to your problem.

SOURCE: Outdoor A/C unit fan

If the fan and compressor are shutting off. its possible its cycling on a low pressure switch. probably low on freon.

or you have a low ambient kit to keep pressures up during low outdoor temps while ac is running just the fan will shut off, however thats not a typical thing to have a residential system

Testimonial: "After ohming out the compressor and fan and checking the switch, I got the neighbors gauges and found out that was the problem - Low. Thanks"

Hi I have an Omni AOS - 09HR4F split system air cond and when I set it to the cooling mode the unit outside starts the fan motor running but the air coming out of the head unit inside doesnt get cold?

Could be a lot of reason why compressor is doing that .First make sure your outside unit is clean ,if not wash coil with water .If coil is clean check capicator and replaced if bad .if capicator is good then you might have a bad compressor or a leak in your system and compressor is shutting off on low pressure .
To figure this out you need to install your refrigerant guages to check

Duo therm rv air conditioner repair

Sounds like thermostat is failing. There is a factory set resistor that helps the thermostat keep a 2 degree accuracy. Second possibility is that you have a fan or direct airflow from the cooling system, being devirted, that is allowing the cool air hit the thermostat on the wall.

Fan won't run / won't cool

It may have a faulty compressor relay or overload, best to change both at the same time. It's either that or a bad compressor.

Hello. I have a Bryant 561CJ030-D AC unit. The fan comes on but doesn't seem to be cooling. We have had record high temps the past couple of weeks (over 100 degrees), and I'm wondering if the...

Is the compressor turning on? The fan may be running, but you will not get cooling effect unless the compressor is circulating refrigerant. It appears your unit is a 2.5 ton unit. What is the square footage of the space being cooled? Is the space insulated?

Window unit (110) cools for a few minutes then stops cooling just fan air unit is about 6 0r 7 years old

It sounds like your compresssor is shutting off on an overload. After the overload cools down the compressor comes back on until the overload heats up and shuts the compressor off again. The fan keeps running as it is not on the same circuit as your compressor.

Fridge question

Sounds like you mad have a bad relay or overload on the compressor. I would also check your condenser fan motor to make sure its running and blowing air on the compressor to cool it. If its not running the compressor may be overheating and shutting off on its overload. If the condenser fan motor is running I would assume that you would need a new relay and overload it will come in a kit. Usually it will make a clicking sound when the compressor is TRYING to start and then shuts off on its overload if the start components are bad.
Hope this helps _MJ_

LG PTAC acting strange in heat mode

I believe the problem in lies in the dual stage heat mode setup on the thermostat, but the unit going into defrost does make the unit act kinda strange. Even more so than other types of equipment. I would suggest hiring a licensed HVAC service technician if the problem cannot be resolved by yourself.
