SOURCE: Gateway M-6862 laptop will not turn on; battery light flashing re

Seems to be a problem of not enough power.

First check the voltage output of the charger(adapter) and match it with its specs.

Also try to reset the hardware using the following steps:

1 Disconnect battery and the charger
2 Let it sit for 1-2 minutes.
3 Press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds.
4 Reconnect battery and charger and try to start by pressing the power button.

You can try switching off the comp. then remove the battery at the back of the laptop then wait for a few seconds before putting it back.

Need help to figure out why laptop wont take or indicate that its getting power, and found two loss wires in hard drive by the fan motor

If it is an old laptop and battery can be removed, remove the battery and plug in the adapter. This way laptop should work. Faulty battery can cause this problem.

Laptop wont boot up, black screen, has power

You didn't post the Make, Model of Laptop or the OS you are using. I'll use a Win 7 solution. Boot the Laptop, open the Control Panel, select Power Options, set to High Performance, select Change Plan Settings, set SLEEP to Never, select Change Advanced Power settings, go through the settings , set SLEEP and Hibernate to Never, Power buttons and Lid to shut down. Always shut down and unplug your laptop when not in use to prevent damage from power surges and possible Fire hazard IF the battery malfunctions. A reboot every day will reset the computer.
