Hi Mangoe
I have a nikon cool pix 4600, i put my phone SD card into it when the camera SD ran out of memory. it came up with "system error 10," and will not work again. I have even tried putting the camera SD card back in and it comes up the same. Can I fix it??
Hi I found this info on the Nikon Australia website:
"SystemError" or "Lens Error" message in LCD monitor
Question
My COOLPIX camera displays a "SystemError" or "Lens Error" message. What should I do?
Answer
Having a "SystemError" or "Lens Error" message displayed on the camera's LCD monitor would generally indicate that your camera needs servicing.
A SystemError is a general error which can be caused by many things: lens problem, CF Card problem, general camera failure, etc. To troubleshoot, please try the following:
Use the memory card that originally came with your camera (or a Nikon approved card).
Remove and replace the battery.
On the other hand, a Lens Error generally means that an error has occured during the lens operation. To troubleshoot, please try the following:
Turn off the camera.
Remove and replace the battery.
Turn on the camera.
If the above tips do not help, your camera must be sent to our Nikon Authorised Service Centres, there are no user serviceable parts in our Nikon COOLPIX cameras.

Seems you may just have to remove and replace the battery - sort of like a Windows Restart to fix a computer problem! - this would reset your camera's memory.

The 4600 works with SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it is electronically incompatible and will not work. The camera is limited to SD cards, 2GB and smaller.
You can download the manual at http://www.nikonusa.com/pdf/manuals/coolpix/4600_5600_en.pdf

SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.
SD type cards have a little switch on the card that can write protect or "lock" it. Take the card out of the camera and check this switch. To unlock it, it should be moved towards the edge of the card which has the electrical contacts.
Hello,
Many times when someone fools with a memory card and the camera is on, it sort of backfires when the camera is trying to read or write data to the memory card. Error 10 might be attached to a fault in the memory card or system error. Try doing this first: remove you memory card when the camera is off. Remove you batteries so it can reset. Leave the batteries out for 30 secondsthen replace them. Use a brand new SD memory card and then turn on camera. Go to menu and format the new memory card and see if this helps. Good luck.
