Replacement mechanisms are shipped with a solder bridge that shorts out the laser to prevent problems with static electricity during shipping and installation. Did you remove that bridge? It should be on the optics assembly itself.

Thanks Dan you are the man,i removed the bridge as you suggested and my dvd player is now working 100%.
