Many outlets carry USB cords: Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Pamida, Costco, Radio Shack, etc. Take the old cord with you to match up the connector on the drive end.

A USBFLB80 is not a hard disk controller, it's an external USB hard
drive and does not require any driver when used in Windows ME/2000/XP.
This device is plug and play in Windows XP providing you have a working
usb port to plug it into.
Along with the Firewire port, there should be a standard USB 2.0 port on your drive. In that case, any standard USB cable will do. If for some reason there isn't a USB 2.0 port (?), you can purchase
a USB/Firewire adapter for about $1.50 at Monoprice.
it could be that power isn't sufficient on the USB connection. you might need to plug in your AC adapter.
Also this drive has both FireWire and USB ports on it.
To get it working, make sure that the AC adapter is supplying power, and that USB is connected correctly, then re-boot.
Ubuntu should recognize the drive.
Command line tools that may help are
lsusb
this shows which devices are connected via USB to your computer.
dmesg | less
will help you look for the drive's identification and recognition by the computer, providing information such as vendor strings, capacity, and device assignments.
Portable HDDs normally have a dual cable USB with the thicker cable being the power and data and the thinner one power only. Many manufacturers now make PSUs with USB sockets
