In tried to install symantec corporate 10. on my pc and it has windows vista. i didnt know it was not compatable. now i cant uninstall it from my pc. what do i have to do to uninstall it?

Symantec is only compatable from 10.2 onwards I am afraid.

I'm not a sir, but if you follow the directions that your OS (Vista) tells you & go to the Symantec site to look for & download the most updated drivers for the software, you should be good to go. As Vista is known for it's bugs & quirks, you may find that you will have to search out the drivers for lots of software & hardware you install. If you still get the same error after downloading & installing the driver from Symantec, you should contact Microsoft to see if there's a problem with compatability with that program or see what else the recommend.

You don't want to uninstall that unless you have other virus protection. If you have vista, it won't let you uninstall it without some other form already there

You must use Version 10.2 on Vista.

They are the manual instructions but Symantec to have an automatic removal tool floating around. put the CD back in the drive (or get access to it from it's directory or whatever) then repair it as follows:

C:\> msiexec /i "D:\SAV\Symantec AntiVirus.msi"

let it go through it's dog&pony show then when it's done, uninstall it properley:

C:\> msiexec /x "D:\SAV\Symantec AntiVirus.msi" or

Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility package from:

Install and run. Remove the offending Symantec Install Package from the list. Wella.

Hi, It would seem that at one time Symantec AntiVirus was installed in your PC. Part of its protection design is to ingrain itself within the shell of windows explorer. There is a possibility that the program was forcibly removed by folder delete and not through the usual uninstall as you posted. Remnants of the program are still present/active and were not uninstalled. A couple of things you can try: 1. Install Symantec AntiVirus again and then uninstall using the auto/complete option; 2. Install Norton Utilities and run WinDoctor, after scanning, click "Repair All"; 3. Install WinOptimizer and and run using User Defined option, check everything and start, delete erroneous entries; 4. go to Start, Run, type "msconfig" without the quotes, in the Startup tab, uncheck all references to Norton or Symantec; 5. go to Start, Run, type "regedit" without the quotes, in the Registry Editor press Ctrl + F, type "Symantec" in the Find what, click on Find Next, delete all instances. This is of course assuming that you do not have any other Norton/Symantec programs essential to your PC and that you have taken the usual precautions of registry backup, system restore point.
