I bought Model #IA5847 a few months ago. At first it seemed to work fine but within a short time it makes so much static that the caller can't hear us. The only time you can hear clearly is if you stand immediately in front of the base. The extra hand set that came with it is impossible to hear at all due to static. Isn't there something we can do. Of course, I threw the manual away. Any help, very much appreciated.

Check if you still have a valid warranty on your phone, in case get replacement for defective handset. If you have static noise only on one of the two handset, then it is propably a short, as a redio interference will disturb both handset. the short may be near to microphone side.

Uniden cordless phone 900 MHz

A phone uses a voltage drop to determine when it is answered or hung up. What is happening in your case is the phone or base unit, or worse yet the house wiring has a short to ground somewhere. This also cause the static you hear. You can get a regular phone and plug it into the same cord and see if it works normal. If so it is not the house wiring but the phone or base unit. If so you can only hope to find the short yourself which is very time consuming and difficult on modern digital units. Sorry to say it's cheaper to get a new unit than pay for repair. The only other thing that cause those symptoms is the batteries are going dead. I assumed you checked this first. If not you can try changing the battery pack on the phone.

Can't hear callers, but they can hear me

The problem might be the hearing volume. As far as I know, the only way to change it is in the middle of a call.

Here's what you should try...

1) Call someone.
2) Using the silver button on the left side of the phone, press the up arrow key a few times until the volume is all the way up. It will say "Hearing Volume".

Hopefully that will solve the problem and your phone will be working fine.

SOUND NO PICTURE

Hello, You have a high voltage section problem I would not suggest fixing this set on your own. You will need to take this set to the shop. Because there are no user repairable parts inside of the set.

For incoming calls, the caller cannot hear me for 2-10 seconds after I pick up

You've got an IP issue somewhere in your setup. It sounds like the call is being lost and then the phone is querying the DNS server to find out where it should be looking for the call. Do you have a VOIP server name or it's IP address in the setup? Are you using DHCP or manually assigning IP addresses? If the VOIP server is not on a static IP, I would fix that first. Post back here the answers and we can look at it further.
