I get the same problem, I wait a few seconds even leave and come back and the same error appears, it says I'm close to or exceeded max cap but I'm over 100lbs away from max cap.

When you step on it and get the err1 message step off wait a few seconds and step back on, remember that while the scale is processing your weight you MUST remain STILL.

depends it may have a power save feature, this will shut of the scale after a set amount of seconds. or it may be faulty. check the user guide to see if it is power save.

Well I figured it out, just in case anyone comes across this. Turn it over, push the button on the top middle of the scale, hold, turn back over, wait until "C" appears on the screen, stand on scale, now it works. :)

My Cal-Max scale oftentimes refuses to weight me and when it does, it requires me to initiate it first as if the battery has just been replaced. I have tried contacting Taylor by e-mail and received I also tried replacing the batteries but that did no good. I toyed with the idea that the bathroom tile might be a little cold for the scale, but the scale sits on rubber feet well off the tile. Is this scale bought in 2010 worth sending for service or should I just recycle it. I've got a feeling these scales have given a lot of trouble. Gary
