JVC HD52Z585 green lines / remote service menu

I have an HD52Z585 "52" set which displays green vertical lines as the set warms up. It gets progressively worse until the image is un-viewable.

I have read that resetting the HDMI port from the service menu may
resolve this but I do not know how to get into the service menu. My
set is out of the warrantee period so I would like to try this myself
before I have to pay for a service call.

Any ideas, suggestions is appreciated.

The green screen you read about is a solid color only when you select digital input. If you are getting green lines in any other input the reset will have no affect at all.
You will need to have the TV serviced, there is a possibility that the service center can use the reset jig to correct this. But it could be more serious.

1a) make sure the two slide switches on the top of your remote are set
to TV and VCR (both to the left).

1b) Press SLEEP TIMER and make sure it is set to "0" minutes. (Only on
screen for 2-3 seconds)

2) While "0 minutes" is being displayed on the screen, press DISPLAY and
VIDEO STATUS at the same time. This will pull up a service menu on
the screen.

3) Press the option # 2 (SELF CHECK) on the service menu

4) Turn the TV off and allow the set to run its normal cool down
process.

5) Turn the TV back on and set the TV back to DIGITAL IN mode by

Digital input not working and greyed out on the menu.

Most JVC TV's with HDMI and Digital Input have an optical sensor inside the case to sense if someone is trying to bypass the hardware encryption. My JVC was exposed to sunlight prolonged sunlight and triggered this optical sensor which disabled my HDMI ports. This may be the same situation for you.

JVC HDMI Port Fix

Turn the TV on, and enter the Service Menu. Select 2 for Self Check. Then turn the TV off, and after the fan turns off, unplug the power cord. Reconnect the power cord, turn the TV on, and the HDMI port is re-enabled.

Here's how to get to Service Menu:

Before entering the SERVICE MENU, confirm that the setting
of TV/CATV SW of the REMOTE CONTROL UNIT is at the
"TV" side and the setting of VCR/DVD SW of the REMOTE
CONTROL UNIT is at the "VCR" side. If the switches have not
been properly set, you cannot enter the SERVICE MENU.
1) Press [SLEEP TIMER] key and while the indication of
SLEEP TIMER 0 MIN is being displayed, press
[DISPLAY] key and [VIDEO STATUS] key (Fig.2)
simultaneously.
2) The SERVICE MENU screen of Fig.1 is displayed.
3) Verify what to set in the SERVICE MENU, and set
whatever is necessary (Fig.1).
Refer to the SERVICE ADJUSTMENT for setting.
4) Press the [BACK] key to return the SERVICE MENU.

JVC HD-52G786 Service Mode

Sure. I'm not sure if you can do it without the original remote, though. On my remote, you need to have the tv turned on, then press the sleep timer, then press the display and video status buttons simultaneously. This enters the service mode. Then, you should see an option for self-check (#2 i think). Enter that, then you should see 2 vertical columns of different inputs. From that screen, power the tv off. This resets all the ports on the tv.
