Cant burn cds on my ASUS NOTEBOOK PRO50SR-AP301C. comes up with error 2131. or says discs are used. spoke to someone at harvey norman and they said ti format the discs,did that but still not working? what do i do?

you can get Disc Cleaners and Repair products from Harvey Norman, Kmart, or any major retail store (normally) id be hunting through your local computer centres for the best products, even Ebay may have someone selling them online. you can also get lens cleaners for the drive that will play the cds :) hope this helps

First uninstall and then re install. That would work. This is a common problem. May be related with the firmware. What is the OS? Often occurs in Vista. You will be able to burn CD-RW disks though. And VERBATIM or MEMOREX brand discs (CD-R) You need a firmware update. Dell have issued a firmware upgrade but not sure with Toshiba recently.

According to the support page the firmware update fixes the iTunes
issue with “The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error
occurred (2131) when you tried to burn playlist to disc for blank CD-R
media. the region code error for DVD movie playback.
NOTE Please DO NOT USE THIS UPDATE FOR A TOSHIBA LAPTOP the computers
may have the same optical drive but the firmware updates may not be
identical and flashing with the wrong firmware may damage your drive”.
This isn’t just the Toshiba Equium A200 laptop getting an error of
2131, the other notebook’s manufacturers also established the source
of the problem and they have to provide a firmware update to download
and fix this problem. The best thing you can do is wait until Toshiba
provide a firmware update specifically for the TSST TS-L632H version
TO01 drive in your laptop.

This problem is normal and exists with many CD/DVD drives.
On some of the drives, if you put in blank discs and try to open the disc in My Computer or Windows Explorer, Windows displays no contents or a blank disc. Whereas on other drives, you get the error message that you mentioned about incorrect function.

What software are you using to burn CDs or DVDs? Are you able to burn CDs but not DVDs or you can't burn both the discs? Did you try a CDs with a different make/manufacturer? Some drives refuse on some disc makes. Try another disc and another writing speed, or try the lowest writing speed available with your software.

Try lowering down the burning speed.

I used genius to get a playlist , could not burn it using itunes , error 2131 , so i copied the list to a folder on desktop and loaded the list to roxio , it worked . I help this helps ! It would work for nero to I think ?

The problem is with your optical unit, (TSST****), it must be firmware-updated, which version of iTunes do you have?

you have to download a firmware update for your cd/dvd drive.

1. Go to Control Panel->System->Hardware and write down the model of your drive.
2. Click this ->LINK<- and select your country
3. On the next page select 'DVD recorder' from the list.
4. On the next page select your model #

If your model is not there, post the model # here and I'll look into it further.
