Sound is not working on my hp laptop

Few days back I updated the software of my sound driver ,after that I am unable to hear any sound even when windows starts up . I can hear it thru my headphones not thru the internal speakers. it's a HP pavilion dv6131od.

I was unable to revert back the changes . So I restored the whole OS and still it's not working .

Do you use headphones often? When you updated your driver, were you using headphones then?

Did you RESTORE the OS or did you reformat and REINSTALL the OS? if you did a complete reformat and reinstall either 1) the software has changed Firmware settings and messed up the hardware or 2) The Reinstalling process has installed similarly unfunctional drivers or 3) there is an unrelated problem that is the real cause of the issue.

I'd try getting ahold of a whole set of drivers and trying each one. You might also want to look into BIOS updates for the HP, they might have fixed the issue already.

SOURCE: sound is not working on my hp laptop

I had the same problem; my laptop's speakers suddenly stopped working but I could still use the headphones and sound was fine.

I played around a while and searched the net; and I got them to work:

Open Control Panel- Sound, Speech, Audio Devices-------->
1) Audio Tab
2) Under 'Sound Playback' hit Advanced
3) At the bottom where it has Speaker Setup change it to "Laptop Stereo Speakers" (mine was initially on "Desktop Stereo Speakers" for some odd reason)

Problem solved, Thank God (Alhamdulilah)!

Hope it works out for you :)

No audio on Aver tv usb 2.0 analogue, M026.

If it worked before you updated the driver, so a system restore to the day before you downloaded the driver. That will set things back to the way they were before the driver update.

Microphone not working, but speakers and sound is working.

First off, if they can hear you and you can't hear them, it's not your microphone. It is more likely related to your sound card, possibly a driver update could fix your issue. Go to Toshiba's support site here's the link for the portege model listed above: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_modelLanding.jsp?ProductMenu_0=Portables&ProductMenu_1=Portege&model_find=S100-S1133&ProductMenu_2=1042298&moid=1042298&rpn=PPS10U&smoid=true&ct=MH&ListType=Model&x=27&y=7, and select drivers and look for the sound card drivers with the latest/most recent date, download them and update your driver to see if that fixes your issue.
Since you post that your sound works in other areas just not chat or Skype, you might also want to do a Windows update on their site and choose custom for your choice so you can review hardware and software updates to add to any critical/security updates found on your PC, and that may fix your issue also.
Good luck.
