Yesterday the door on my 14 cubic ft upright freezer did not stay shut tight (it was ajar about 1 inch for about 6 hours). When I became aware I closed and locked the door to be sure it stayed shut, but the freezer has run constantly since. The Model Number is 253.9244411 and it was bought 5 1/2 years ago. The food in the freezer did not thaw completely and everything is frozen in there now, but I am concerned that it continues to run.

It may take upto24 hours to settle to -18C,remember it has to cool right through the food in the freezer,as well as the walls.also if the food went soft, it is spoilt......cook meat asap then refreeze.

Sounds like the main control board to the unit needed to be reset and with the resetting it has caused a communication error with the door sensor. Contact a service tech to move forward with a repair.
The door sensor causes that. See to it the door really closely tight. A dirty or defective sensor will fool the micro-controller to send an alarming. Have it check and clean by a service technician. Good luck.
The lower hinge on each door
may have a door closing cam. It raises the door up ¼ inch when opening and this
assist in closing the door. If it’s wore out and doesn’t work the door may not
seal and the gasket can be damaged. Watch the operation of the door to see if
it rises up when opened.
Leave the door shut and let the magnetic gasket hold the
door in place. Put something between the bottom of the doorand the floor to hold it in case it slips.
Remove the bracket holding the pin and hinge assembly taking
note of order of removal of parts. Slide new cams on. You probably need two.
You can try replacing the seals and or adjusting the hinges.
That may work.
Be aware that if the unit is over 10 years old it is probably using twice as much power as a new one would and costing you an extra $75 to $100 annually to run over a new unit. Could be more than that if the door seals are not tight as well.
