Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have an older DVD player. COBY DVD-404. I downloaded pictures from my camera to my computer onto a DVD-R disc and then again onto a DVD+RW disc. Neither disc would play on my player. It comes up on screen, "UNKNOWN DISC". Is the problem with my DVD player, am I using the wrong DVD's to record on or does my player not have the capability to show pictures? HELP! My name is Joanne

Your 'old' DVD player is the problem. It is unable to 'read' picture files. Time to put the COBY away and upgrade to a DVD player that can read .jpg, .jpeg images. Most new players do and they are not that expensive.

Coby portable dvd player model tf-dvd1021...load dvd into player, then "wrong disc" comes up and player just stops! Won't play dvd after that.

Check and replace the Laser Pick-up unit of the DVD player. It is weak. Contact any service technician. This work cannot be done by a user. It is somewhat skilled one.

Discs will not play back on dvd

What DVD's are you using +R/RW -R/RW some formats may not work especially on non-branded media some DVD players wont even play CD-R but will play some CD-RW of the correct brand.

I suggest that you try your finalized DVD in your PC then create an image using ImageBurn then burn the image onto a branded media and try again. Most firmware on DVD burners are very forgiving and will support a wider range of manufacturers and formats.

Hope this helps, you might want to look on your DVD players website for updated firmware you will need a blank CD and create a update disc using your computer.

I recorded onto DVD-R discs and then finalized but they wont play on my dvd? how can i get them to play ? i usually buy DVD RW

Some dvd players cannot play certain types of discs. You could check to see if the manufacturer of the dvd player has a firmware update to fix this problem. Older dvd players have trouble playing some of these discs. Most newer dvd players do not have issues and have upgradable firmware to adjust for different formats. Does your burner also do DVD+R discs? Maybe try using those and see if it plays on your dvd player.

By mistake I bought a dvd rw disc instead of dvd-rw disc and recorded a holiday video on my camcorder with it. I usually then upload the contents of the dvd onto my hard drive (Pioneer) and then download...

Try uploading to your PC then converting it to AVI this keeps quality of video. Then if you want to download to a disk use Nero to convert it to VOB (DVD format) and burn off. You can also use Nero to erase the disk. (Nero 7 or more recent preferably.) You must also be sure you PC DVD read write head can take the DVD +/- RW. CHeck compatability.

I had a similar issue at first... needed to ensure that I had the Sony Picture Motion Browser Software downloaded to the system and then it was ok.
