How to open old Excel file.xls in Excel 2016.

Excel 2016 should be able to open older Excel files. You might find that simply restarting your computer solves the 'not enough memory and disk space' error.

Excel Corruption files

Without seeing the file, it is difficult to diagnose what is going on, but I will offer some ideas.

What version of Excel are you using? Are you using Excel 2003? Was the file you are trying to open created in Excel 2007 or Excel 2010. If so, it might be using the new format and therefore will not open in Excel 2003 and older.

It is possible the Excel file is data that was imported from a source in which Excel cannot import. Does the Excel spreadsheet contain any imported data?
Try to use: XLSX Viewer Tool here : http://www.xlsx.viewertool.com/
Those are the most likely causes of the corrupt data. Is every file you open in Excel corrupt, or just this one workbook? If it is just this one workbook, then, yes, it sounds like it is corrupted. If every file you open with Excel is corrupt, then your version of Excel could be corrupt, but that is unlikely.

Excel workbook error

I came across this issue today. An update to the Office Compatibility Pack that was still on a computer caused the default PROGRAM for .docx and .xlsx files to be the Microsoft Open XML Converter program and make the "Default Programs" in Control Panel think that Excel and Word were actually the Microsoft Open XML Converter scholarship essay writing assistance program as well.UNINSTALLING the Office Compatibility Pack in Programs and Features and then a simple reboot fixed the issue.
Also:
1: Try to repair it manually when MS Excel does not automatically STARTS File recovery mode.
Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click OPEN.
Now select the corrupted workbook that you want to open.
Click the arrow NEXT to the Open button, and then click Open and Repair.
Choose either Repair (to recover as much of the FILE data) or Extract data (to extract values and formula when repair process is not successful).
2: Open with Open Office: Try to open your Excel file in Open Office. It is an open-source Office suite that is able to open & SAVE Microsoft Excel files.
3: Save in HTML Format: Open your Excel file and save it in HTML format. By saving the workbook in HTML format, you may be able to filter out the corrupted elements.
4: Save in SYLK Format: Open your Excel file and save it in SYLK format. By saving the workbook in SYLK format, you may be able to filter out the corrupted elements.
5: Try 3rd party software like Excel Repair Toolbox

How i recover my demages excell files

Close down Excel, re-open it and try to open the file again.
If this doesn't work, restart the computer, open up Excel and try to open the file again.
If this doesn't work, delete the contents of your c:windows emp directory then reboot. Try again
If this doesn't work, open Excel in Safe Mode. This will disable VBA and Add-ins.
  • Click on Start then Run then enter (including the quotes and the /s extension): "C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOfficeexcel.exe" /s ["C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice10excel.exe" /s (for Excel 2002, Office XP, click cancel if the MS Office Installer starts, Excel in safe mode will still start)].
  • Try to open the file.
If this doesn't work, be sure to scan the file for viruses. If you don't find a virus, find the file in Explorer, right click on it and rename it, replacing the .xls extension with the .doc extension. Try to open it as Word document.

If this doesn't work, try to determine if the file is unrecoverable on the disk. Open the file in Explorer and try to copy it to another location.
  • If you can copy the file to another location, skip to step 9. If not, the actual sectors on the disk may be corrupted.
  • If the data is valuable enough to you, seek professional services as a damaged hard disk file recovery is not for the faint at heart.
If the recovered file won't open or you could copy the file to another location, try to open the file in a more recent version of Excel. As the version numbers increase, their ability to recover corrupt files increases. If this doesn't work or such a version of Excel is not available, see if some other spreadsheet application is and try to open the file in that program.

If Microsoft can't help you (see the tips section) and you've exhausted all the free methods above for damaged disk recovered or copyable files there are a number of excellent commercial applications which will recover your files almost immediately.

Can't reopen circular reference file in excel

  1. Click the Microsoft Office Button , click Excel Options, and then click the Formulas category.
  2. In the Calculation options section, select the Enable iterative calculation check box.
  3. To set the maximum number of times that Excel will recalculate, type the number of iterations in the Maximum Iterations box. The higher the number of iterations, the more time that Excel needs to calculate a worksheet.
  4. To set the maximum amount of change you will accept between calculation results, type the amount in the Maximum Change box. The smaller the number, the more accurate the result and the more time that Excel needs to calculate a worksheet.
