SOURCE: Door Removal Sharp Microwave Model R-1611

The door comes off in a very simple way. Now...I'm speaking from the perspective of MOST microwave ovens. All you should have to do is open the door all the way to the left and lift straight up. The door has mounting pins that fit into a couple of hinge pin holes. If your oven is equipped with an upper panel grid, you may have to remove it, so the door will have more clearance. Putting the new door on is just as simple as lining up the pins in the door with the hinge pin holes and setting the door in place. Close the door slowly to make sure the pins are aligned with the holes properly. If not, the door will fall off while attempting to close. Let me know if this is helpful to you.

SOURCE: Sharp Carousel Microwave door latch stopped working door won't stay closed

Microwavesvc, that's what I've had happen with my sharp also, I carved a hook out of a piece of plastic and then epoxied it in, and haven't had any more problems with that.

Another problem I've had with the sharp (that just reoccured, I'm trying to figure it out) is that the micro-switches that the door latch push have gone bad. Originally just one went bad and I replaced it, now the micro has the light and fan on, and won't recognize being closed...

SOURCE: spring for the door latch is broken

Normally the problem is not the spring, but a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.

If it's the door panel, it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.

The door latch head (hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.

We have the service manual for this model and have uploaded it to our site here to help you. You will need the free Adobe Reader to view or print it.

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.

We're happy to help you and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Sharp half pint microwave door latch broken - how can I fix it?

Okay. I got the Half Pint Microwave door off, opened it up, found the spring, used a Dremel to make a new point of attachment for the spring since the spring flang on the dooor was indeed broken. The door closes now and microwave turns on - but it doesn't stay on, unless I apply pressure on the top right corner of the door. So the latch is just slightly out of alignment. Will tinker with it some more. Maybe it's just a matter bumping up the lower part of the door a bit. Has anyone encountered this problem?

I opened the door on my sharp microwave and now it wont latch. it sounded like something snapped off where the door latches to the microwave, not the door itself . Even if the door is held shut the light...

It may be the latch head spring or the door open lever or button.

DOOR SPRING LATCH HEAD HOOK

If you gently push up on the door latch heads (hook-like devices sticking out of the door) there should be spring tension. If they just flop right up, the spring is off inside.

Normally the problem is not the spring, but a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.

If it's the door panel, it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.

The door latch head (hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.

you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see how it goes together.

4c9c250.jpg

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.

DOOR OPENING BUTTON LEVER

What usually breaks is the door open lever, but it may also be that the rear side of the door open button has worn down too far to work.

On a counter top model, the outer cover will need to be removed to diagnose and repair this. On an over-the-range model, only the control panel needs to be removed.

Please unplug the oven first.

Once it is apart, you'll be able to see how the door open button would press against the door open lever, which would then lift up against the door latch heads (hook-like projections on the door) and the door should open.

You can usually find exploded views and part numbers for Sharp models by entering your model number at the Sears parts site.

If not, let me know. We have many Sharp manuals and if we have yours, we can link you to it at no charge.

The best place to order Sharp parts is

How to install latch and spring in microwave door

You need to know where the 'catches' are inside the choke cover on the door to remove it carefully without breaking anything or marring the cover. You might get inside and find that the post for mounting the return spring has broken and that is part of the outer door panel.

The door will not latch

The latch head (with hooklike projections) have a spring to keep it pulled down. If the latch head can be easily pushed up and falls back freely, then the monting tab on the back of the latch head is broken and it will have to be glued or replaced. The new part is better. To get to the door screws inside, you have to remove the choke cover, as shown in the photo. You can order parts for Sharp models from Tritronics at http://www.wehaveparts.com.

The latch head (the assembly with the hook-like parts sticking out) also has a spring which secures it to the inner door panel. The inner door panel or latch head has a broken spring mount. To repair this, the door panels will have to be separated.
