I have Dell latitude d630, It is switching on but no display, when I switch on my laptop, its num lock light is on. capslock light works when i use caps button. Power light is on but hard drive light doesn't work. I observed that LCD of the laptop glow little bit when I power on the laptop. I hold power button for 3 sec to swith off the laptop. please help me. thanks Anas [email protected]

Attach an external monitor. Does the external come on? May have to use the FN key + F8 to toggle it between the LCD and the attached monitor.

When you say that the laptop LCD glows a little bit, this makes me think the back light of the LCD has gone bad. If it displays fine on the external, then it is a pretty good chance the LCD back light has failed. If you can attach an external monitor and see something on it, run the built hardware test. This is done from a powered down state. Then press the FN key + Power, this places it into the diagnostic. Follow the on screen instructions. Occasionally, reseating the LCD video cable to the mother board will have a positive effect. Here is a link to the online service manual that explains how to reset it. In the diagram it is labeled #5 It is located under the keyboard.

Look closely at the lights. Think "Number Lock" and "Caps Lock." Play around with those two buttons while looking at the lights. Then you will know what they are.

I would suspect either the video card or your LCD screen.. A good test is to hook up an external monitor and see if that works. Be aware that when you start it up, you will have to hit the function key and special function key combo to switch it to the external display.
On the latitude, that is the Fn key plus the F8 key.

You should be able to locate the wifi switch in the left hand side of the laptop. The switch is a little slider to the right hand side of the headphone/microphone ports.
