Brother MFC 8500 receives faxes and does nothing else

We can receive faxes and the printer says online, but we can't send faxes or anything else. When we press any button on the machine it beeps three times. No error codes are being given. It just refuses to do anything. Any suggestions?

Currently I can receive faxes but can't receive them and I don't have the manual on the Brother MFC-8500 device.

Any suggestions

Check to make sure that the PC Fax Function is turned off. I noticed after I connected the 8500 to my PC and installed the software, I too could no longer receive faxes and it was corrected after I turned this PC Fax function off.

The function is located by:

Press the MENU button.
Select Option 2.
Select Option 1.
Select Option 8 (PC Fax) and turn that function OFF.

sounds like the modem on your printer has failed depending on how old it is most likely it would be cheaper to buy a new printer

Only if you have set the fax options to automatically print a sent item/transmission report. Otherwiase you will receive nothing unless the person or company you sent a fax to decides to fax you back.

Brother MFC-8500 Fax Error 77

Error 77 is a fuser error. If resetting the power doesn't work, then the fuser is bad and it will need replacement. Repair should cost around $200-250.

rest teh machine by shut off the machine and pull out the pluug. wait 2 minutes and plug in the power and turn on the machine.

what normally helps with brother is unplugging the machine for about an hour and plug it back in.
In your manual says how you can make a test print.
This will clear your internal buffer.

Also it might help un installing the machiine from your network and installing the software new.
try it and let me know what happens
