My camera was recently dropped, and now it shuts off at random times without retracting the lens. I am wondering if this is fixable, or if it is worth it. The camera was purchased for about $345 in 2007, and I love this camera, so if I can fix it I would like to.

I had the same exact problem. The problem is your battery connection. When you dropped it, the batteries pushed the spring or springs down so the connection is not solid. Remove the batteries and lift the springs up with some tweezers. Replace the batteries and you should be good to go.

If i on the camera the lens won't work properly and message that turn off the camera and turn on again

Hi there:
If the camera has recently been dropped it may have lens damage that is preventing it from powering up. There are a number of ways with which a lens error can be caused. Particulates might have managed to get into the mechanical bits that allow the lens to retract, a purely physical interference with the lens mechanism. If the camera was dropped, especially while the lens was extended, there's a pretty good chance something might have been knocked loose, such as the guide pins upon which the lens withdraws and retracts.

Additional details could find in this article link: fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Suddenly, after taking some photos the camera will light up to the Fujifilm start window, and no further, then blacks out. It will not shut off with the power button, nor retract and close the lens even...

The main board is bad. Was it recently dropped? If so, then the board might have been damaged - it's not worth fixing. When a camera is dropped it's like a car getting into a major collision - you'll have other problems later. As long as the memory card is good, you should still be able to recover your pictures.

Lens error, restart camera

Lens error is usually caused by mechanical faults concerning lens assembly. The lens cannot extend or retract fully, the error is detected and lens error is returned.
Sometimes this can be fixed playing with the lens during extraction or retraction to help the lens asset getting back to normal.
More often the camera lens must be disassembled and re-assembled by a technician to fix the problem.

Camera dropped, lens won't retract or expand

You can buy a new A590 for under $110 these days, so the professional repair option may be out. Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

Camera dropped, lens won't retract or expand

Sounds like the lens got bent out of alignment. Call Canon at 1-800-828-4040. They are really good with their support with or without warranty. You can send it in for repair or ask for the Canon loyalty Program. You trade in your broken camera and they'll give you a newer model for an incredible price.

Dropped camera and don't know if it is fixable

Generally speaking, there is nothing you can do to correct the problem other than to send the camera to the appropriate factory service center for correction of the error. Following the repair cost you should decide, whether it worth it.
