My unit will turn on and show a display will read "no heading pulse" across the top of the screen. I can not find my operator's manual and I am at a loss as to what to do.
The messages “NO HEADING PULSE” and “NO BEARING PULSE” means that the display is not communicating with the scanner (antenna). Both of these signals are generated in the scanner if you get this error check that the antenna cable is firmly connected and that the contacts are clean and corrosion free.
If the connection at the display looks good and feels like it’s properly connected, check the cable for any damage If you find damage you could try to repair the wires BUT (because of corrosion and moisture problems) IT IS STRONGLY REMENDED that the cable be replaced, but it’s kind of expensive $275.00.
The Part number is 000-130-034. Depending on the marine shops in your area they may have it in stock (or they can order one) but you can get it directly from Furuno at;

I hope it’s just a loose connection. Good luck!
This was my problem exactly, a loose connection. A year and a half later and I checked out this forum. I had the head off, there was a loose set screw on the pulley too. Thanks a lot!!

I don't have quite the same problem but when the radar is set to transmit, nothing is received. The scanner is going around, could it need a new magnetron??
My radar works perfectly all day 24/7 while at anchor or underway in calm conditions, but if it gets rough out there, after awhile I get the "no heading pulse" message. Removing the radome cover the first time revealed that the toothed pulley on the drive motor had come loose and slid up the shaft, blocking the rotation of the spinning antenna. Tightening the set-screw seemed to do the trick until it happened again. But the pulley looked just fine. Now, giving the spinning antenna a little "push" will get it going again, and it works just fine as long as the boat is not pitching around. The radar probably has less than 50 hours of "transmit" time. Maybe the drive motor? Maybe the belt? No sign of cable damage, all connections are fine. Any ideas?
I have furuno 1715 with the same problems , cable seems to be ok and all connections any idea please
