cannot take the bottom off my powermate to change the belt There are no screws just two things on each side that say insert screwdriver here. It will not lift off the bottom or top

  • greta garbo Jul 22, 2008

Is there a part, that attaches to the rear area where the belt goes over, to keep it in place? When I added the new belt I pulled it over the beater bar and attached it to the rear area, but the belt continues to break when it is turned on. So I am assuming I am missing something to hold it in place in the rear area..........or not!! Welcome any suggestions. Thanks, Linda

How to change Vacuum belt?

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
Not knowing the name brand or model # most vacuums belt change from the bottom or by removing the top cover to change the belt for an upright, if you have a bottom plate remove the bottom plate and remove the belt, make sure the brushroll spins free and does not have any thread or hair buildup, once that is done slide the belt onto the brushroll pulley and then stretch the belt onto the motor pulley, once on the 2 pulleys then tract the belt and replace the bottom plate – plug in and turn on to check. If you have the type where the top cover comes off it is then the same procedure listed above for the brushroll and belt. If you have a canister with a powerhead there are 2 or 3 screws on the bottom and the top cover would come off and then follow the procedure just like the upright. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
Thanks, Don – The Vac Man

I can't change belt
Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Not knowing the brand name and model number for the vacuum but I can give you a generic way of changing the belt. You 1st need to remove the bottom plate by screws, levers or clips, then you can get @ the belt, if not then you should remove the top cover and then you can get @ the belt. 1st remove the belt from the brushroll and install the new belt on the pulley side of the brushroll and then use a belt puller or a screwdriver with a bend on the end and then stretch the belt onto the motor pulley and then track the belt in a straight line so that is running in a straight line. Replace the bottom plate and the belt change should be done. Please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area.

So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

I need to change the belt on the Hoover preferred 16.0 how do I open it up?

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. There are only 2 ways in order to change the vacuum belt on a Hoover vacuum cleaner. There should be a couple of levers or screws on the bottom of the vacuum. Once you remove the screws and or the bottom plate the belt should be exposed –if not then the top cover of the vacuum will come off and then you can service it from the top of the vacuum. The average flat belt change is every 4 to 6 months for the best cleaning and to store the extra belts in a Ziploc bag in the refrigerator, for some reason if the belt is a geared belt then you would change it once year. If you have a question look inside your owners manual or to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

No belt

There are two screws on the top side just behind the Brush housing. Remove these two screws, one on each side, and the top plate can be removed. Then you can follow the directions above.
Hope that helps.
