Lucky you! =p For most of us the DVD doesn't show up at all... Not in Bios and not in windows! I think that your dvd will go the same way... So, don't fiddle with it too much, it will just make it go faster.

make sure that the dvd burner is getting enough power test all leads that are attached to the dvd burner including electical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might bebad/faulty orthe drivers may have been corrupted or you might have a virus run your antivrus programyou might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd burner then plug them back in this should activate the found new hardware wizard oryou might have to uninstall then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device Click start control panel administrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question mark ? right click you will have options to update driver, roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer Close all open programs

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Lower Filters.bak
If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
After deleting the keys, close the registry editor Reboot your computer Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone. hope this helps
the DVD burner/plaeyr has to have compay=tibkle media , perhaps you purchased incorrect CDs or DVDs (mdeia) to burn with .. make sure the speed is compatibke with the CD or DVD media
contact the sales people at the store where you boiught the DVD player/burner and ask them to give you correct media to work with

NOTE: if you’re uncomfortable deleting registry entries, rename them (e.g., w/ “.SAV” extension)
burning and cd requires a cd burner... the fact that you burn cds does not necessarily mean that you can also burn dvd's.. to burn a dvd you need to have a dvd burner unit installed. check on tray that comes out on you cd/burner if it says RW DVD.. if not chances are you only have a cd burner but is not a dvd burner.
Laser failure is very common on CD and DVD players/recorders, they are very easy to change and very inexpensive these days.
I keep three or four of this one on the shelf in my workshop all the time. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106226
The beauty of this one is that it comes with both a black and a beige bezel to suit most machines, it is also a "retail" version so it comes with burning and playback software, not all burning software will recognize all burners and often people phone me up asking why the new burner they have bought (OEM) will not burn, infact their burning software cannot even recognize their new burner.
Also some burners do not recognize all makes of CD and DVD disks, I have yet to come accross a make of disk that that Liteon doesn't burn with no problems.
Odds are it's the burner. I would try using a bootable cd like an os cd and seeing if it was detected outside of the os. That should tell you real quick if it's the burner or the os. Good luck.
Dvd writer is not detected at all...Few days back it was shown sometimes....now ,its failed completely
