My P28 bought off ebay did the same so i removed the ram cards and using a artist fine paintbrush brushed wd40(or q20 or any lubricant of this type)into the card slots onto the pins and replaced the memory.Next i removed the cpu cover and then 4 screws holding the cpu heatsink down and cleaned off the heatsink paste from the cpu and heatsink then replaced it with fresh paste and that seems to have worked and solved my problem.Out of intrest the paste was hard and tacky .

    Hi all

Just a update,on doing everything i described the freezing on startup reared it's ugly head again.I stripped the laptop down to plastics and cleaned everything and soldered battery terminals and any joints that looked weak but the problem is still there. When it happend again i gave the laptop a light tap underneath around the fan vent and then started it up.It works perfect and when it freezes i repeat the procedure so i can assume it's the cpu joints on the circutboard that are dry jointed but on inspection i cant see any possible way of getting to them so it's live with the problem or sell the laptop if youre getting frustrated.Out of intrest the cpu socket is bolted onto the motherboard(above the fan vent at bottom of laptop) and causes that area to distort and with all the heat dry joints are ineviatable sadly on this lovely machine.

Hi there,

sorry i got to this post so late. you are indeed correct dry joints around the cpu socket (we get tons of these all with this exact problem), this is a well know fault (but you knew i would say that) and has been fixed in the past by reflowing the mainboard, anyhalf decent repair store should be able to arrange this.

sorry this is not much help.

Samsung P28 Laptop, The Bios fails to see the DVD drive

Try taking a brush dipped in alcohol and cleaing out the connector on the motherboard. Do the same with the connector on the drive. Make sure it is dry before putting the drive back in. Alcohol dries pretty fast just blow on it for a few seconds. If that doesn't help then you may have a motherboard problem. I would only suggest this if you are sure that the drive is good. My first suspect would be the drive.

Freeze and black screen after re-boot

Go into bios screen and set the settings to optimal default and save then try again. if this gives you no results try f8 at the windows starting screen and safe boot if this allows you to enter window in safe mode your problem is outdated drivers. try any old vga video card and again see if you can enter windows normaly. and remember do not get frustrated this is how we all learn how to fixya.

Samsung P28 freezes or blue screens on startup

Hello

This laptop is kind of old to put much money into it. I'll have to assume that you're diagnosing an overheating problem - screen lock up. BSD's or blue screen of death is caused by drivers. Before going to all the trouble of diagnosing hardware do a Windows repair. This is part of the original CD. If this doesn't work then do an operating reinstall. This should clear up all possibility of a BSD. Now to the hardware. If your fan has failed then I suspect the CPU and/or the video chip. You can check solder connections around the power supply connector. Good luck
