Well...the contrast comes to mind first, and then the color temperature..it's all accessible from the menu, of course.

I'd start with contrast, and then look at the color temperature ratings..

Picture brightens then darkens

Trying with a DVD will rule the tuners in the set in or out and also suggest a setting in the set or a box if used is causing this issue.

Very dark pictures

hi melissa,
your problem is the focusing areas, im sorry that I do not know how to turn it off, the rectangle you see is the area is focusing on, and the darkness is what the camera doesnt focus on, try reading the manual, or turning it off yourself.

Sony LCD TV has Dark Picture

Hi there,

the problem is not the lamp.

This model has a set of two backlight lamps, and it is practically impossible that both lamps go faulty at the same time.

When the backlight lap in an LCD TV goes off in this way, the faulty part is always the backlight inverter, that is the high voltage board powering the lamp.

In your case you have to get the TV inverter booard replaced.

Rolling lines on screen

Sounds like the power supply has a bad capacitor. This problem can inject excessive 60 hz from the AC line into the vertical stabilizing picture system. The hum also my come from the same reason, bad or leaking filter capacitors. Cheaper just to buy a new TV or borrow another TV and connected to your system to see if the problem still occurs.

Tv problem

Does the set still have backlight? That is, if the set is turned on and the room is dark, can you tell if the LCD screen is still getting power and lighting up (just with no video)?

Dark picture

you know it sounds like the same problem i had....
look this is something you can try.... "turn the tv off and unplugg it!!!"...you'll need to take out the lower front part of the tv......(where the speakers are to be exact) on each lower end you will find 2 screws..Be careful it will open to the side and there are many wires, i suggest you mark them to know where to put them back...then right in the middle there will be a black cover with about 5 screws..take them out....and look at the very bottom you'll see a thing with 6 pegs....the top ones are for the screen "DO NOT TOUCH THEM"...the ones on the bottom are for the colors...re adjust them...the left one it's for blue, the middle one it's for green and the last one it's for red...

I had the same problem after i moved....and after i re adjust that the tv looks super...
i hope that helps..:P

Pioneer SD P5071-K has a dark picture, though, a good one.

You didn't mention if this problem suddenly happened or has been getting dimmer over time. If it's the latter, it could be a heavy buildup of dust/soot/smoke (depending if there are smokers in the house or a wood stove, etc) or the picture tubes going bad. If the set is over 9 years old, I'd replace it with a HDTV set and not look back. If the problem occurred suddendly, then a resistor or some other component may have gone out and it again would not likely be a cheap or easy repair.
