SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Take the memory card out of the camera. Move the lock switch on the side of the card to the unlocked position if it is in the locked position. Replace the card carefully without moving that switch. The unlocked position on most SD cards puts the switch towards the end of the card that goes into the camera first.
If that doesn't help, try a different card. The card you are using may have a problem that could require formatting. Copy your photos to another drive first. (Use a drive/photo recovery program on your computer (with the card in an SD card reader). There are some that will attempt to read even a corrupted SD card.) Then reformat the card. If the card can't be reformatted, it may have failed. Check your warranty on the card and see if it will be replaced by the manufacturer.
Locking the memory card prevents you from taking and adding photos to the memory card. It also prevents you from deleting photos from the memory card. If you want to erase all the photos off the memory card. unlock the memory card, go to the camera's Menu and scroll through the settings ti Format the memory card, then format the memory card.
SD type cards have a little switch on the card that can write protect or "lock" it. Take the card out of the camera and check this switch. To unlock it, it should be moved towards the edge of the card which has the electrical contacts.
Hi,
This used to happen when the write protect lock on in the memory card. Refer the manual to see how to remove the memory card.
After removing the memory card, unlock the write protect tab as shown in the fig.
Chances are the card has gone bad, are you able to access the data on the card even though you can take any new photos?. Very rare bu it does happen. Buy a new card to try or see if one of your friends has a digital camera/camcorder to test. The lock/unlock switch on the card is probably bad. You can buy a new one say 512mb for about $10-$15 or a 1mb-2mb for about $$25-50..
Most SD cards have a switch on the edge of one side of the card.Sliding it up or down will unlock or lock the card. When the card islocked, you will not be able to transfer any audio tracks. Nor will yoube able to play any copy protected files. We recommend you always keepthe card unlocked. NOTE:We have found that on some cards, if the slider is even halfway towardsthe lock position, the card will be locked. Make sure that the slideris all the way to the UN-locked position.

Hi there, My name is Rob and I can help you. Do this:
Make sure the camera is off and pull out the SD card. Look on the side of the card. You will see a little switch. One side says locked (or shows a little picture of a locked lock) the other side says unlocked (or shows a little picture of an unlocked lock). Make sure the switch is in the unlocked position and reinsert it properly into the camera.
This will fix your problem. Thanks for coming to FixYa. Let me know if I can be of anymore help. Don't forget to rate my answer a fixya!
