Sounds like your boot order is set wrong or your computer is not seeing your hard drive.

When you boot your computer you must go into your System Setup (Usually by hitting Delete, F2, or F12 while the Acer logo is on the screen). Look for a menu called boot order and make sure that your hard drive is the first one in line.

    Yes you can. Your hard drive can be replaced rather easily. You can order one straight from the manufacturer to make sure it is the proper type. Usually it unscrews from the bottom, and slides out the side. I am not farmiliar with your model, but even an Acer salesman should be able to tell you how to replace it. Good luck!

Acer aspire d257 pxe-e61: media test failure, check cable error

Your computer tries to "boot" (start-up) from several devices:
* floppy-disk (if installed)
* disk-drive (if not "dead"),
* CD/DVD optical device (if "bootable" media has been loaded)
* PXE --> Pre-Execution Environment -- checks if there is a connection between the network-adapter on your computer to a "boot-server" on your local network -- it can load Windows from that "boot-server".

The "media-test failure" indicates that there is no network-cable attached to your computer *AND* the other-end of the network-cable is *NOT* connected to the "boot-server". So, you can that "error" message.

Is your disk-drive "dead" ????

My computer gets this message when I try to boot it:

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.

Solution:

Your computer is set to boot from the network (PXE = Netboot).
Go to your BIOS and make sure you boot from your hard drive.

Remarks:

Shouldn't be enabled by default

I have a fiujitsu hard drive in my acer aspire 5315 my keyboard has no keys just some rubber tips and when i turn on its says broadcom UNDI PXE-2.1 v10. 0. 9 copyright yada yada and then it says: PXE-E61:...

The keyboard needs replacing. Replacement keyboard for your laptop maybe available from this WEB site.
PXE-E61 ERROR
The error PXE-E61: Media test failure usually means the hard disk has failed or the hard disk needs re-seating or the disk controller is faulty. First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

Pxe-e61: media test failure, check cable acer extensa 542

Your computer tries to "boot" from several devices:
* floppy disk
* CD/DVD optical device
* disk-drive
* external CD/DVD
* USB memory stick
* PXE ("Pre eXecution Environment)

To use PXE, you need "media" -- a network cable connecting yur computer to a "boot-server". The "media test faiure, check cable" reports that no network-cable exists, or that it does exist WITHOUT being connected to a boot-server.

Probably, your computer failed to boot from a DEAD disk-drive, and then tried floppy/CD/USB before checking PXE.

Replace the disk-drive.

Hi,

You computer is trying to boot from the LAN port (Ethernet).

Go into the BIOS by pressing either the F2 or the Del key. Check and make sure the hard drive is recognised by the system as with it saying "Operating system not found" does not sound good and could mean a hardware failure.

If it is seen by the BIOS check the boot order, change it to the HDD as the first boot device.
