After replacing the Ni-Cad batteries in my shaver (unsoldering the tabs
that were soldered to the circuit board, resoldering the new battery
tabs to the circuit board), I found that the shaver won't turn off when
connected to the AC power supply / charger. The shaver keeps on
running if the cord is connected, no matter what I do with the
switch. The switch appears to be working, and the batteries
appear to be getting charged. Did I fry a component? Is
this fixable?
Thanks.

Hi,
To open up your shaver, remove the lotion cover and remove all 5 screws
with a small flat head screwdriver. They have a star head, but also a
flat notch. Since they shaver is water tight, the first time you open
it up it will be difficult, but if you pry off with your screwdriver it
should pop off.
Towards the head of the shaver the batteries are soldered to the
circuit board. Pull the tail end of the batteries out of the plastic
holder and cut them at the top end as close to the batteries as you
can, or CAREFULLY bend it back and forth to snap the metal. Dispose of
the batteries responsibly as you would any batteries.
Hope it helps you.

Chris, All rechargable shavers have their battery(ies) soldered to the main circuit board inside the razor. In order to replace the battery(ies), you will need to disassemble the shaver by carefully removing the molded plastic cover(s) that hide the screws (which hold the shaver together). Sometimes located under the shaver head on certain Norelco models, others are under pressed in covers on the back and/or front.
Once you've done that, you have to be very careful not to dislodge any of the mechanical connections from the motor to the cutting heads. With the board exposed, you'll see the batteries, soldered to the circuit board via tabs that are heat staked to the batteries. Note which way the polarity (+ or -) are located on the board. Take a digital picture to make replacement and reassembly easier when you're putting everything back together.
Now with a pre-heated soldering iron, melt off the solder on the battery terminals and remove them quickly. Do not heat the tabs any longer than needed, so as to avoid possible damage to the circuit board. With the batteries removed, you might have to open up the thru-holes where the battery tabs go in, in order to get the new ones in place. Solder them into place and you're almost done.
Now reassemble the shaver and allow the shaver to recharge for at least 8 hours.
If you have any doubts about doing the repair yourself, you can have the shaver repaired by a service in Nebraska that specializes in replacement parts and service for all brands of electric shavers.

They usually can turn around a repair in a week from reciept.
Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

For easier replacement, it is sometimes suggested that you use a modified installation technique. This is to break the tabs off of the old batteries rather than unsoldering them from the circuit board. This allows the old batteries to be removed but leaves the tabs attached to the circuit board. You can then solder the tabs from the new batteries to the old existing tabs

I didn't replace the batteries, but I have the same problem. When I press the on/off switch, the razor keeps running for about a minute. After the batteries were eventually discharged (somewhat prematurely) the razor would no longer turn on after I recharged it, or even when I plugged it in.
There are no visible problems on the circuit board or other connections to it. The gear train appears to be free from restrictions.
