Question about Canon i80 InkJet Printer

I80 black cartidge not printing

I have an i80 printer. I have replaced both the color and black cartridges (canon ones NOT cheaper models that fit the i80)
The color is printing fine but the black prints nothing.
I have tried a deep clean - still nothing - there aren't even any streaks, just blank paper.
I have taken out the print head to see if anythings wrong - not much to see anyway but it doesn't look damaged.
Can anyone help in getting it to print again.
Please email before I slowly drown it in the bathtub due to frustration.

I am having the same problem.  The paper goes through the printer as if it is printing, but the page is absolutely blank.  Have replaced the ink cartridge and done deep cleaning-- no success....

I have had a similar problem with the i80 and a previous portable model, and resolved it by buying a new printhead.    Found it on eBay from Japan, for £35; it arrived in a week, I have just installed it, and printer is now perfect again!

Get a q-tip and wet one end in water.  run wet q-tip along head a few times.  then take dry end and run along head again to dry it.  then run wet end again on the absorber side of head.  then dry with dry end.  replace parts, do a deep cleaning, and try a test print.

Hi, I just got a Cannon369 MP360 the black ink is empty, but there is color ink in it. It will not print anything. Do I have to replace the Black to get color in to work??? Since it's 2nd hand I don't want...

With this type of printer you need to have a full black cartridge to print black and white. The new Canon BCI-24 black cartridge from Staples is only $8.29. These cartridges are even cheaper from refillers. I recommend Cartridge World or Office Depot for printer cartridge refills.

My i80 canon printer not printing in black ink only in color. what is the problem? Rebecca

I think you have to check the settings on your printer, maybe it is set to print color alone, so you need to change it to print both black and color.

you can equally remove the black cartridge ink and clean the surface, maybe it is stock with dirt,

I wish you best of luck

Canon MP150 consumes color ink when ''Ink Cartidge'' = ''Black Only''

In order to keep the printhead free of clogs, all inkjet printers 'clean' the cartridges (color & black) fairly often. In my experience, a printer that is used regularly doesn't need 'cleaning' as often as it is done since this is an ink-wasting procedure and one that keeps the orders coming in for new cartridges where the vast majority of the profit is. Printers used only infrequently do have a tendency to clog and produce the poor quality we all hate.
Epson printers have ceramic printheads (the models I know) which will last just about forever providing they are used regularly. In home use, they have an ugly tendency to clog and often cannot be restored to their otherwise excellent performance. Printers using the integrated printhead/cartridge are easier to keep printing but this system makes the replacement cost much higher and the manufacturing cost slightly higher.
While HP hardware and consumables were made in the US (outside San Diego), I knew employees there and the early integrated cartridges cost a whole ~ 85 cents to produce and $20-$30 dollars to buy at retail.
Printing quality has unquestionably improved but it isn't likely to get any cheaper.

Compatibility of Ink cartidge.

The MP600 does not use the 40 or 41 cartridges, it uses individual color (and black) ink tanks. But other models (MP190, MP460, MP470, etc) do use these cartridges. The error message you are receiving indicates that the printer does not recognize the cartridge you installed as a valid black ink cartridge. This can mean that either the cartridge is faulty, or that the printer has a problem.
I would suggest trying another new cartridge, and if you still get the same error, to contact Canon for support options if the unit is still in warranty.
