I installed one gigabyte of memory to replace the virus-eaten original 512 that was currently on this laptop. I ran the OS and now this computer is working very well. The only problem with it is that the recovery software reconfigured the monitor, so now the main window is only displayed on about 60% of the full screen. Whole web pages can't be viewed without scrolling left and right. I haven't been able to figure out how to fix this. Thank you in advance.

Thanks for your help. I'd already tried to change the resolution on the desktop properties, but I can't take the gauge any lower than 800 x 600, which I think is the main problem.

Hello,
You will need to change the resolution of the desktop. Go into the settings of the desktop screen and find where you can adjust the resolution. The new memory probably changed the video settings back to default.
Simply change the resolution and it should fix it.

Thanks,
Lolita

I think the resolution should go higher, not lower.

Try it and see if that helps.

Try right clicking the desktop then Select "Properties" / Display sould appear, go to setting tab. you may want to write down screen resolution setting as it is now. change as you see fit "more or less" hit ok. It should say your screen has been adjusted, do you wish to save these settings "yes or no" if you do nothing it will go back after 10 seconds. play with it until you get desired look..

I have 512 K memory chip ,can I add this to my travelmate 6492

I do not know your specific model of laptop, but if the above specifications are accurate, then most likely not. Most laptops have two DIMM ports, where you place the RAM. This laptop probably has two 1gigabyte pieces already installed. This means to add yours, you must remove one and replace it, thereby decreasing your RAM to 1.5gigabyte total. Now under the rare possibility that your computer has a single 2 gigabyte RAM installed, then yes you can really easily. Just open up the panel on the back with the RAM inside and check. If only one is installed, then install the other (you can use google search to find the exact process), and your computer will be ready to go. I hope this helps, -Robert

The memory I install to Armada wont boot

Check the specs of the computer. The model you has two memory slots. One on the bottom of the notebook. One under the keyboard. Each equal 64 mb thus 128 mb. You need to replace both with sdram 256 mb sticks not one 512.

Toshiba Satellite Pro M15-S405 Memory upgrade problem

This usually happens when the laptop is not able to take more then a certain amount of memory, as the system BIOS does not support higher. By saying ACPI as the blue screen, that tells me that the power subsystem does not 'like' having more then 512MB of RAM. I am 95% sure this is your BIOS because of that information. Check and see if you can find a BIOS upgrade for your computer model, and that might fix the issue, if an update is available.

During installation, windows XP only recognizes 131062 mb of my 320 gb hard drive

This is because "the original ATA specification used a 28-bit addressing mode, allowing for the addressing of 228 (268,435,456) sectors (blocks) of 512 bytes each, resulting in a maximum capacity of about 137 gigabytes" (wikipedia). To fix this try upgrading your computer's bios and enabling any bios entries for larger disks. Also make sure that you are running your operating system with all of the current updates.

Hp Pavillion laptop freezes when I install secondary memory

You may not put all together the 256 and 512, the system encountered error when two memory are not equal size and not equal brand.

Either you select 2 units 256 memory or either 2 units 512. or use only 1 unit 512 memory so that no freezes will happen.
