If you're electronics savy, as in replacing capacitors, open it up.. that's your problem.. one or two of the caps on the power board has gone bad.. most likely a 470uf 25v, which can be replaced with a 470uf 35v found at Radio shack for about $1.29. You can tell if it's bad if the top is cracked open & leaking or just domed out instead of being flat.
Thank you so much, Szieve! I have two Apex DTCs, both of which had stopped working a couple of months ago. After reading your post, I popped the top of one of them, took a close look, and lo and behold one of the capacitors had a beautifully domed top (versus flat like the rest). I open up the other Apex DTC, and sure enough, yet another blown capacitor. A quick trip to Radio Shack...salesman points me in the right direction...grab a couple 470uf 35v capacitors ($1.49 each)...dig out my old rusty soldering kit...and before I know it, two previously bricked DTCs are as good as new, maybe even better! The hardest part in the whole process was finding my old soldering kit! Thanks, not only for the solution to my problem, but for a new-found confidence! Can't wait for my next project!!
